(AdvoCare Invitational) Missouri, Fri. Nov. 24, 11a, ESPN NEWS, 970AM

We had this game and then they got hot from 3...We played hard, i was still impressed with our defense. This is where sid wilson would of came in handy we could use a lengthier wing to defend the 3 point line when teams get hot.

Ponds is an elite scorer, he can do it all on offense. LoVett is a tough player, he looked really good on defense. Bashir played well picked us up when we needed him. Owens is our most important player his worth goes beyond the box score. Simon can lock guys up and run the offense and even hit a ugly 3.

Clark a non factor couldn't stop fouling, also he looks a little slow defending on the perimeter, he is a 4 man and needs to embrace the garbage man/rebounder role for us, we need a guy like that. I'm satisfied with Yakwe so far this season he hasn't been great but he is giving us enough considering last year, playing good defense. Amar gave us solid minutes, he is better when he doesn't shoot and just keeps the ball moving to our scorers until Owens can get back in.

5-1 is nothing to be ashamed about. We played well, Mizzou has a chance to be an ncaa tournament team in a deep sec, even without mike porter. 3 point defense might be an issue due to our lack of length but we have the firepower to match teams in that regard. Got to like our defense right now considering its still November, especially when Owens is on the floor. Mullin getting much more comfortable as a head coach you can just see it.

I won't be surprised or too disappointed if we lose a game on west coast trip, but need tomorrow's finale. 10-2 going into BE season would be a good place to be.
Encouraging signs today (aside from Shamorie's play) were ability to come back from big deficit again versus good competition, great team foul shooting, Ahmed's second half offense and Yakwe continuing to show signs of being a solid contributor off the bench. For me, big negatives were defending the three (shades of last year) and Clark and Owens difficulty staying on the floor due to foul trouble. Love watching this team play!

We battled back well from IIRC 16 down, but we lost too many loose balls and rebounds early to get us in that hole. Two storylines that define the game...

1) At one point late in the second half Mizzou was average shooting 3s (we were hitting up to 60%) up until they hit 8/8 consecutive 3’s to win. They finished 52% we finished 44%.

2) We can win consistently when losing the rebounding margin, but we have to Win the turnover margin handily. We only won it 14-11. That’s not enough to negate our size.

These are the troubles we had last yr defending the 3 and it has carried over without a dominate rebounder we are going to be hurt every game Clark has been a disappointment From what I heard from a post hear that when Mo when to a zone we were lost That is on staff no way should they be lost We have capable 3 pt shooters they just do not do it consistently We foul too much but not seeing the refs seems like 32 to 17 was too lopsided if that was more even we would have won this game even withstanding our reb difference
I am taking the loses painfully but not getting down on the team It's up to the staff to each them the box out etc They have had over a yr with clark and is is just average in many aspects of his game Future recruiting needs higher skilled players to move the needle forward It is frustrating because they are getting better but against top programs with top 50 and below talent we will not compete I do believe it is going to take longer than most have thought

If you think Simon had a bad game you weren't watching, he played fine and did his job. He is not a big time scorer he is a jack of all trades type and gets points in transition. He can really lock his man up on the perimeter. Combined with Owens and and an improved effort from lovett and to a lesser extent ponds we had really good stretches on defense. We were switching seamlessly on D for a while and then they started hitting that corner 3. They got a little lucky too at the end, that's why I'm not worried about it, we showed some great signs that we will compete every night this year. Our stamina looks top notch, they were hustling all day.

What time is the game tomorrow? Is it going to be televised?

I believe we get the loser of wvu/ucf.

Hard to win when getting killed on the boards then down the stretch they don't miss a three, oh well.

Gotta win Sundays game and go 6-1.

Great points. The negative 27 - 16 defensive rebounding gap killed us, as did Mizzou's better shooting. We had 10 more FG attempts--but lost by 8. Also forced a few 3's in a rush to answer their fusillade. We're a young and very talented team. Should be a very interesting year.

Honestly watching the game the rebounding numbers look worse than it actually was. It was more of an issue in the first half, in the second it wasnt a big deal. The 3s were the biggest issue. We force a lot of steals also to make up for it. Like one poster said if we value every possesion we can get outrebounded and still win.

Spot on post. But, can’t emphasize how we need Marvin to foul less. We are too thin up front. A complete non factor today.oh well. Onto the next one.

Good game to learn from. Team never quit. A little better shot selection and some more boxing out would have made a difference.
Give Missouri some credit. They were a good opponent. Hope we see them again.

Missouri was by far the best team we played this season.(likely NCAA's). Tomorrow will be another tough game and we need to play well tired.

Simon made a couple of poor passes but otherwise played well as he has all season(by far our best rebounder and is close with Ponds in assists, and a very efficient scorer). Clark hurt us today with the fouls. He unfortunately is more of a 3. Ahmed had his best game of the season and was especially good in the second half. Owens is huge for us but the one thing he still needs to improve on is finishing. His shooting percentage is too low for a guy his height. Overall I think we lost because of depth not height. Ponds, Simon and Lovett all played almost 40 minutes on short rest.

If we can win tomorrow that is a very good start to the season. We then have a chance to regroup and hopefully play well on the West Coast trip.

Very much looking forward to the rest of the season.

Shamorie Ponds said Missouri zone "smacked us in the face. We weren't expecting that." First time Tigers have played zone this year. #sjubb
