(AdvoCare Invitational) Missouri, Fri. Nov. 24, 11a, ESPN NEWS, 970AM

who was playing defense or should I SAY NO defense on Porter since he went on a tear for 11 mins that cost us the game
No matter we new going in to the season that Defense is our big weakness along with rebounding Yes, we can score against anybody trouble is the score against us more
Unless things change only hope for us would be NIT REALISTICALLY, WHAT TEAMS IN THE BIG EAST CAN WE SAY WITH CONFIDENCE we should beat It will be challenging to say the least We tend to get all hyped up since are playing teams with less talent and we feel we should make the NCAA but once we start playing teams with equal talent that have much more depth and good big bodies inside we have a problem Pond is not going to score 31 pt every game Clark should have stepped up and we would have beat MO Can only hope we start having games where all the players are playing at their peak because with our front court thats what we will need to compete and to win the majority of the big East games Do not to project doom and gloom I like the team but if only had a true big in the middle things would be so much better Staff should have gotten someone for this yr which would of helped Yes the have 2 for next yr Why did we fall apart when we had a decent lead Coaching?? We had to be prepared for a zone Lets hope we run on all cylinders tomorrow

Agree. Interesting that Mullin keeps Bashir on the bench in the first half in both games. Even though we know he can be erratic he's a big part of our offense. I believe he scored 15 of his points in the second half yesterday. Against the zone Mullin had two on the foul line and three outside passing back and forth, last year he set picks at the top of the key. Needed more offense from Lovett but gotta love his in the jock strap defense. Simon almost jumped out of the gym on a back door stuff. I love this team.

Disappointing to see them get their first loss, especially since Missouri just lost their best player for the year. But like many of you have already said, they are light years ahead of where they were last season. The guards are excellent and the defensive intensity has been better for the most part. The only thing I keep reiterating is they need to get better on the boards. It's not going to be easy because they are small up front. I said that last year when they whiffed on potential big man recruits. But you cannot expect to win games when you are outrebounded 41-27. It's just not going to happen against bigger and better teams. Owens, Yakwe, Clark, and Ahmed need to be better. Can't expect Simon and Ponds to be collecting 5+ boards per game. Again, not saying they are going to win the rebounding numbers most games, but need to be more competitive.

I'm not a big subscriber to the "get better" theory, especially for 2 juniors and a senior. Players of course improve, but Owens issue is weight, which isn't going to change much, and Yakwe's issue is not having good hands. He must have played a lot of soccer growing up, and not goalie. His effort and involvement are better his year, He is certainly competing much more so than last season. The answer is on the staff to recruit a big with both a bangers mentality and an ability to score off of post moves. That will make the offense that much more dangerous. Just so strange, or maybe not, is that so far Mullin has created a roster similar to his old Golden State teams. Guard centric that couldn't get over the hump because they didn't have post players. Then Nelson drafts Webber, and gets frustrated when he prefers to play 15-18 feet from the basket, just like Marvin Clark.

Lost my voice after the first game chanting DEFENSE plus screaming at the incompetent 3 blind mice. Finally met some of our Redmen followers - Frank and Peggy from N.C., Joe and Nancy from South Florida, Sean and his lovely wife from Philadelphia, Panther 2 and Mark Andrews. Surprisingly also met guys who don't post but read our post on Redmen.com. Had a great party at the amazing Gaylord Palms Hotel. Thanks to Paul Scalfani and SJU for the food, drinks and Under Armour shirt. Hopefully, I get a chance to meet Beast of the East and other posters on Sunday. Having the time of my life watching the 100 % effort from our team.

The gap in defensive boards in the game and the 10 more shots taken & 8 fewer points are concerns, but this team is talented, extremely quick, plays with great intensity, is skilled, and young with 1 starting senior. The starting five has 2 newcomers and Owens and Yakwe still developing game skills / smarts, with Yakwe 'recent' to the game.
I'm taking the glass-is-half-full view with this team and anticipating marked improvement as the season continues.
And this team has exhibited grit coming from behind and not quitting.
Good things ahead.

The starting 5 has a total of 6 years of division 1 experience and a total of 3 years as starters. Not too much imho.

sju went all out on the friday night get together. shirts, food, booze. all at the very upscale gaylord palms.
really enjoyed meeting former sju baseball player and fellow redmen poster jackofvirginia. he is very knowledgeable, a die hard johnnie, with many sju stories, and a fun guy to talk to. my plan was to go from table to table & ask everyone if they were redmen.commers. but i could not leave my table as everyone was great to talk to. my bad. coach & the ad both briefly spoke to the crowd. mrs coach reminded chris that it was their 26th wedding anniversary. my highlite was having a picture taken with coach & mrs section10.

Agree. Evening reception was well done.

Nice to meet some members and see some familiar faces though I didn't get to meet all of you....perhaps on Sunday.

Got to talk quite a bit with Garry St. Jean (Greg's dad and former NBA GM & coach) who saw logo on my hat and was looking for directions. He Introduced himself and I recognized the name. Really great guy, very friendly....I sensed from him Greg is highly passionate about success with the program.
