Adonis De La Rosa,

It is a must we get this kid now. Our front court next year is two players. TWO. One gets into foul trouble every game, and one hasn't played organized bball since last year! We are in trouble here...

Good news is I Lavin has not failed to get players since he's been here, and I trust he has a few things up his sleeve, and it's not just ADR.

Short sleeves I fear.

How about a tie? :ngrin:

He's certainly pressed for time.

Paultz I know your pretty well in tune with the program so your concern concerns me, but I would guarantee Lavin signs a transfer or a de-pledged recruit or two this spring. Just too good a recruiter and too much playing time to offer.

For a kid who may be a transfer. Jumping to conclusions is foolish. Have been a SJU fan since 60s.

So have I. I still wouldn't have anything relating to yukon, regardless of transfer rumors.

What a man!

Getting ADR would be nice in light of our ample available scholarships. We certainly have the room to take on a project. But with Jakarr leaving we now have a legitimate need in the frontcourt, and I don't know how much ADR really helps there on an immediate basis. I know a number of people who saw him multiple times in CHSAA games this year and were not impressed in the context of his potential near-term contribution at this level.

Having seen hi many times, more suited to fill Gift void in first year than Sanchez' minutes.

That's the impression I've got from what I've heard as well. Which is valuable. But we now have to fill Sanchez + Jakarr minutes as well...and we didn't consistently hadle big teams (Xavier) well even with depth up front this year. Lot of holes to fill.

Sampson and Sanchez couldn't cover anyone and rarely boxed out. They also made more mistakes than any front court in the country. Replacing them won't be as difficult as some of you think.

I don't disagree with you regarding Sampson and Sanchez. I know you're not a huge fan of his rebounding in particular, but I'm a huge Christian Jones guy. Can't teach that body, and he attacks the rim ferociously with consistency (something that Sampson and Sanchez did intermittently). I also think he has a chance to be a more polished skilled player offensively than either of them. If his confidence is built up the right way by Lavin (and not jerked around like Branch), I see him stepping in and providing very meaningful contribution next year.

I just don't think ADR, if he comes here, is going to be a big part of the replacement equation immediately. Like Paultz said, more a Gift filler than a major minute filler.

I too like Jones, but more for his potential than actual production. He has an explosiveness that 99% of bball players with his body just don't have.

But as a frosh he only attacked the rim with consistency against the Little Sisters of Holy Saint Albert. When he went up against major comp, he wilted.

Hopefully the year off helps his development. And he sees this opportunity for what it is. Because I doubt Lavin is able to secure an ace forward for next year.

Agree it's completely potential and flashes at this point. But that is largely because he didn't get much of a chance against anybody last year - high or low quality. He basically played the first six games (against a wide variety of competition) and was then slowly phased out.

What caught my attention was the Marquette game. It's the smallest of sample sizes, but he gets called on in this game on March 9, having not played double-digit minutes in a game in 3 months (December 8 ), and gives us 10 and 6 in 20 minutes against a big/physical team. The game resulted in a loss, but he had two dunks in transition in the 2nd half that helped energize and get us back in the game and force OT (we were down as much as 12 in the 2nd half).

I don't wanna derail the thread too much.... But heard Jones has definitely been putting in the work to better his game.
