Abdul-Malik Abu, PF (NC STATE VERBAL)

Color me a bit shocked, as I was pretty confident we would be a finalist for Abu.

I have a feeling this is gonna come down to the New England schools.

I won't doubt Lavin. But things aren't looking too good for the class of 2014

Oh come on. We're 7 days into August.

I know but the only other 5/4 star players that we offered are Whitehead, Larrier, Cunningham, Okonoboh, Delgado, Chukwu

And each one of those players have strong favorites besides Cunningham. I think it's likely that we'll end up getting 1 4 star player and 2 3 star players with our 3 scholarships

People said the same thing about the '12 and '13 class. Still plenty of time. I'm sure we will be heavily involved in the transfer game this year with Atleast 3 ships to give.

Just out of curiosity by the way where was this reported?

First reported by Alex Kline and then the other recruiting insiders confirmed.

Thanks. MCN posted Abu's twitter message after I asked. Was just curious where it was coming from. Not doubting the legitimacy.

Again, it's August. And we have depth.

It's a numbers game. Some of the recruits you listed have had their recruitment affected simply by kids committing to a school before they did. That works in our favor.

Haven't we been down this same road the past 2 years?

Your right about us being down the same road the past 2 years. Hopefully we have another top 10 recruiting class.

It's no joke Moose. If Lavin loses Abu after losing every single front court player/recruit he went after last year, things will not be looking good.

IF is one helluva word. Packs a powerful punch for just 2 letters.

True, I guess well just have to wait and see but it is a bummer when many here thought we led for this kid.

I don't recall anyone here who thought we led for Abu.

You can never count Lavin out. He stole Obekpa (turned into a MAJOR piece for us) at the last second from Cincy, fought and got us Sanchez, and just stole Rysheed from Philly. Let's just wait and see what happens first before worrying.

Perhaps wishfully thinking on my part but I have a hard time with coach Lavin losing out on recruits to the likes of Providence and crappy conference affiliate Yukon, especially after last years failure to bring in a front court player and with the potential upcoming losses of Sanchez and Sampson.

So you don't want Rysheed and wanted him with the 1 available schollie to bring in frontcourt player instead?

I know it's tough to doubt Lavin with his track record but I wish he's had success in getting recruits to commit early.

Like his first year when 7 of the 9 kids committed before we ever played a game?
Of course having unlimited playing time sure helped.
Flip side is look how many made the 'wrong' decision maybe.

But the reality is that at the end of this season we may be in dire need of quality front court players and losing the likes of a player of Abu's caliber is a big hit no matter which way you slice it.

Come on now. If we had been able to bring in a quality front court player, a scholarship would have opened up.
