In this day in age with players from all over the world and many players not doing that great academically domestically (the dumb jock stereotype is a stereotype for a reason) I'd say yes it's a pleasant surprise. I don't think this should cause any controversy...it's just the truth by in large. I'm sure many will post exceptions as if they override the rule, but that's just not reality. For every God's Gift (academically), there are 100 great basketball players who can barely keep their heads above water in school or be well-spoken.
