Well- as usual, gave myself the usual one night sleep after a Loss before commenting...

No way to sugar coat it- that was Ugly. 2am on Tuesday night at an Upper East Side bar Ugly....

They never looked like they had a chance, which is all I personally wanted- be in the game.

For those that thought we had a realistic >50% chance to win prior to the game, you have more faith than I- I want that faith lol.

But this team has not left NYC to play a game, all against mediocre at best competition, asking them to go to Hilton, vs a Top 25 team... well... they got punched in the mouth multiple times and staggered around for 40 mins. They could have packed it in and lost by 25... wouldnt have been surprised by that... but thats not our guys- they'll always play.

Hopefully they spend our hours on this tape and learn from it. Hopefully this was the reality check they (and we) needed to highlight what needs to be addressed.

On to DePaul

Whining? Not whining at all, let me dumb this down for ya. I was just trying to understand, wondering, was curious about why they both didn’t play? Because your continued posts reek of an agenda the block button will be in order. No need to respond.
Oh please. I've never had the block button imposed on me. It would be a tremendous honor for the honorable johnny Rapper to do that. And as my last effort let me rephrase your original post: "Why didn't they play Stanley???????????????? And I'm glad the didn't play Wusu!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" See how I substituted exclamation points for question marks for you? Since I'll be blocked I'll leave it up to others to interpret what Johnny Rapper says and what he really means. You can continue to walk back your posts as you see fit. See ya.

I didn’t see us not pressing in the second half. We did manage 38 points in the 2nd against a team who gives up less than 60 per game, I think our pressure has something to do with that. But I get what your saying re not laying down and dying. I don’t think that’s been an issue for this team under CMA.
The "press" has become--challenge the inbounds, when they fails, fall back. There was zero urgency displayed when a couple of steals could have got them back into the game.

Our two hyped point guards had 12 of the 20 turnovers.
After the first 10 minutes we scored TWO POINTS at the free throw line. We shot ZERO PERCENT during those 10 minutes.
We lost the game in those 10 minutes of the worst basketball a St. John's team has played in YEARS.
This team has not been ready to play in the first half all season thus far.
We are missing leaders on the court and on the sidelines thus far. No more Mr. NICE GUY coach!
Get Posh and Curbelo on the same page......that is our biggest flaw to date.
One thing you can't argue, which I posted about, Is bad first half play and large deficits will bite you in the arse against good teams. Have to come to play in the beginning of the game.

Slow starts in many games dreadful and bad habit. Hopefully, speaking of starts, they better not repeat history in BE by digging a hole they never get out of. Becoming a tradition here unfortunately

I've noticed this in the first 8 games this season and wonder if the pre-game locker room speech needs to be a lot more fire and brimstone than whatever is going on now.
This year so far we have been softer defensively and less organized out of the gate.
Unfortunately it may not be CMA's style and teams are often a reflection of a coach's personality.
Perhaps we should hire Fran Frascilla as a pre-game consultant and to give the half time speech. LOL!!

Not sure if this was already mentioned but the NY Post article was written by the AP. You know we ain't important when they can't send Zach B to report on the biggest game (so far) of the season. Of course it is the Post and would probably have to send him via Greyhound...

Wusu and Stanley not playing deprives your team of muscle, of picks that wear down the opposition over the course of the game. Don't know the reason but I suspect that some of the ISU players would have been less comfortable trapping all over the floor if they had encountered Wusu or Stanley picks along the way. There was a reason for Jim Loscutoff and Dennis Rodman and I am certain that CMA knows it, but clearly something happened. Hope it is not illness with Mathis as the first of many to miss time.

Omar was sick. Wusu was benched. Yes we needed them.

Zach is covering the Knicks this season as well as SJU, that's the major reason for the lack of SJU coverage from them thus far.

St. John's dropped its first game of the season as Iowa State's suffocating defense led to another slow start, one that was too great to overcome with any halftime adjustments.

I get a bit heated on Episode 23 as the loss was ugly and frustrating.

Excellent analysis Dave. What many don’t seem to get is that this could be more then just one bad loss. This team has played undisciplined basketball the entire season so far. They have gotten away with it based on the competition but will have to change to beat average and above Big East teams. Can that happen? It didn’t happen last year let’s hope it does this one.

Who's the "many" that thinks such? What if those "many" happen to be right that this was a bad game/bad loss?
Predicting everything to be a doomsday scenario is the easiest role to take on a sports message board.

You’re either right when the team fails. And you get to parade around saying you were right.

Or you get to be happy when the team succeeds cause you’re a fan anyway

It’s essentially a win-win

That’s really all that’s happening

You’re right, don’t let the facts and what every talking head who knows the game of basketball get in the way here. I’m guessing you missed Zach’s article and a host of others. It was not hard for anyone who knows the game of basketball to see that there were issues with the team regardless of the record to date. Key words,, “those who understand the game”

But of course you have to find an issue with whatever I post cause that’s what you do.😂😂

No one is predicting Doomsday here Jack. That extreme is in your mind. No one said the season is over and the team sucks. What has been said is that there are flaws that were clearly exposed and need to be corrected to have a successful season. And that these flwas were evident even in the teams they beat early on but they were overcome with talent. No fan should be satisfied with a mediocre product and should demand or at least hope for some level of excellence.
