It sure seems that the St. John’s offense consists of attempting to beat the other team down the court, and if unsuccessful in getting the quick basket then to past the ball around without any pattern and either turning the ball over or forcing a shot.

Let’s hope CMA installs some kind of structured offense other than the “hero” ball that has characterized St. John’s mens basketball during the past 4 seasons.

We lost to the 23rd ranked team on the road for our first loss of the season. I didn’t get to see the game due to family obligations. For all intents and purposes, reading the last 5 or 6 pages of this thread, as a Johnnies fan…I should jump off a cliff or something? Season over? You guys tell me.

I blame today's whole debacle on ESPN2😀. By the time they got off the stupid Va Tech Tennessee woman's game, we were already down 17 to 2.

The rest of the game was pretty irrelevant and neither Iowa State nor SJU dominated the action. There was plenty not to like about our performance, but I agree with the poster who said to flush it and move on to DePaul. Will this game be an indicator of how the Big East season will go, or not, is yet to be determined. For those who have pointed out the red flags with our game, I get it but the cup is not half empty IMO. In a game where our starters turned the ball over 19 times and had only 4 assists we probably should have lost by 35, not 11. I doubt this game will be a typical performance by us and we just need to correct and learn from our mistakes today and move on.

That was clear re: no dead eye shooter if you've watched any of our games this season.
Or the past 30 seasons, with only a few exceptions. Which begs the question. When will the recruiting mentality change to bring in shooters instead of slashers? Mathis, Jones, Posh, Curbelo, even Wusu, are slashers. When you can't shoot the three, a team becomes easier to defend.

6 assists vs. 20 turnovers pretty much sums it up for us. Tomorrow is another day....
The turnovers by Posh and Curbelo are inexcusable.
Neither has been effective against bigger guards.
One will eventually have to sit because they have little chemistry together.
Bottom line is this is a flawed offensive team if Jones doesn't become effective.
These guys need to bust their asses in practice because they come out flat 9 games in a row now.
Something is just not right.

So coach thought we were settling too much in the first half. Would like to know what the h he thought we were doing in the first half?
What a stupid comment by coach Anderson. Our disorganized offense shot ZERO PERCENT in the first 9 minutes of the game. We got off only 3 shots in the first 8 minutes.
We weren't settling......we didn'thave the mindset to settle. We were playing catch up hero ball but without a hero.

Before the game Anderson and his staff sat down and discussed what they could do to annoy Johnny Rapper. They concluded that whatever they did would probably do the job, but in a bit of last second inspiration Zendon said, "Why don't we bench Wusu and Stanley".
Well the staff screwed that up as well cause I never want Wusu in there. At least they are consistent. 😂👍

This Iowa State team was just a really poor matchup for us for a lot of reasons. Very mature and well coached team with transfers coming from a well coached program.Disciplined on both ends of the floor. Great spacing on offense, and great help on defense. While St. John's generates turnovers by speeding up teams and the quick hands of Posh and Curbelo, ISU uses 2 players to trap and converge on drivers on players stuck in the corner. They are all unselfish, and they play very hard. So this blowout no surprise. Whether this team contends will come down to how strong the Big East turns out to be.

Didn't quite get why the defensive pressure didn't pick up at any point in the last ten minutes. They made a couple shots to get it down to 10 a couple different times, but an all out press never really materialized. Why the white flag?

Curbelo fouled out with 5 minutes to go. Posh was in foul trouble too. Hard to do it full court when fouls kill you trying to come back and we foul often as is.

Every foul should mean something to this team. If we want to harass the ball handlers and create turnovers we can’t pick up senseless one that will inhibit our ability to do so when it matters.

St. John's dropped its first game of the season as Iowa State's suffocating defense led to another slow start, one that was too great to overcome with any halftime adjustments.

I get a bit heated on Episode 23 as the loss was ugly and frustrating.

I watched the entire 2nd half of Creighton vs Nebraska, and Creighton offense against Nebraska was way worse than Johnnies offense against Iowa State. They were 10/40 from 3, and just kept jacking them up with no offense being run, and the telecast wasn't half as critical as the announcers that were calling against the Johnnies. The one announcer that kept throwing insults was a joke and Zach is a joke for agreeing with that, half the stuff he said like the Johnnies have no skill when they can't get lobs and dunks was straight bs. Teams have bad games, and shoot poorly, that's part of basketball. They act like they were losing by 30 the entire game. I got time for haters today.

With all do respect, McDermott has won over 60% of Big East games since joining the conference and in just the last 2 years has won 3 tournament games

Maybe Anderson will eventually have success here but it’s completely fair to fans/media to be critical especially after laying a complete egg today

So they were a bad match up cause they are a well coached team?
