Is anyone really surprised?????? How can you call yourself a hoops fan, watch this team for the past 8 games and believe they had a chance against a WELL COACHED DISCIPLINED Team?. I was called out when I pointed out deficiencies in this team only to be accused of all sorts of crap. Well reality hurts, this poorly coached, all one on one team was never in this game against an IS team with far less talent was exposed today.

Hey Johnny, did you catch that poorly coached Creighton team get beat by that really bad Nebraska team? They got beat by 10 points on their home court against a team Mike Anderson beat by 20 points. Creighton only scored 53 points against Nebraska, the offense was horrible, everybody just taking turns shooting 3's, no plays ran, McDermott is getting exposed now am I right?

Maybe the players aren't as good as they're hyped up to be. Jones is nice...but he played at DePaul so that should tell you something.
Curbelo isn't a team player. He looks to separate himself from the others with his constant cha-cha moves. How about meat and potatoes?
Posh isn't playing like a first team big-easter...mainly because the selfish players are too hard to control.
We want Soriano to be the second coming of Shaq. He's an outstanding player, granted, but not Shaq. Glad we have him.
Mathis...inconsistant.
Storr...star of the future, but can't defend.
The others are role players.
Coach Anderson is good against crap competition. Against the big boys? No.
The team is a slight cut above mid-major. We're sucking the blood out of the Big East because we don't belong...but the league needs an NYC presence to give the illusion of big-time. Feasting on cupcakes accounts for the 8-0 record. You all know that. Posters who complain about the "pre-season" soft schedule are out of touch. This team is soft...it's limited... Thank the good lord and our athletic director for soft schedules. Now brace yourselves as the rest of the league greases down their enemas.

I watched the entire 2nd half of Creighton vs Nebraska, and Creighton offense against Nebraska was way worse than Johnnies offense against Iowa State. They were 10/40 from 3, and just kept jacking them up with no offense being run, and the telecast wasn't half as critical as the announcers that were calling against the Johnnies. The one announcer that kept throwing insults was a joke and Zach is a joke for agreeing with that, half the stuff he said like the Johnnies have no skill when they can't get lobs and dunks was straight bs. Teams have bad games, and shoot poorly, that's part of basketball. They act like they were losing by 30 the entire game. I got time for haters today.

Bravo. You were correct for this game. Feel better now?
Nope, why would I feel better, the team I root for lost. I was not correct for one game, I was spot on for many games, but the meaningless scores against terrible teams allowed many to overlook the obvious faults the team has displayed to date. Where the team was able to bail itself out after a missed shot with an offensive rebound or an aggressive steal against a weaker opponent, it couldn't do that against a well coached disciplined team.

Can the team improve from here, perhaps but it may take a whole different mindset and disciplined play. First of all, Anderson is going to have to initiate some sort of half court offense that is something other then one on one basketball. Iowa State simply cut off the driving lanes and forced St. Johns to shoot from outside which hurts this team. St. John's also needs to learn how to play better help defense which for a good span in the second half, when Iowa State made about 4 layups in a row, was non existent.

There are a few things to build on. I thought the offensive effort in the second half of the Nebraska game as well as the D was very good, just too bad it was absent in the first half. If this team wants to make the Dance allot of improvement must be made overall. At this point anyone who thinks this team is a top 4 conference team also thought the 8-0 start was meaningful.

Awful performance…Getting beat on 50/50 balls is inexcusable

This team has deficiencies but absolutely has enough talent to win and the clock is ticking…Pieces need to be used properly
- Curbelo is key…needs to create for others. CMA needs to get this out of him or will suffer the consequences
- We need to stop w/all the jumpers until we get some layups and/or fouls. We need to make teams work harder.
- Jones should be playing downhill more

Jones should be posting his man up. He gets in trouble when he drives. He is very skilled around the basket.

Just an awful performance. Beat a ton of times by their offensive rebounding. This team has no spot up shooters, a 2-headed point guard tandem that is not working, a suspect defense, no offensive identity, and a coach that does not deserve to be here if his team does not make the NCAA.

No doubt Creighton shot horribly. One big difference for Nebraska since we played them is they have one of their best big men back in Derrick Walker who had 22 and 8 today.

Agree about the two headed PG thats not working. With Posh literally getting striped over and over, why is he even running the point? Curbelo should be there but of course the problem is that Posh is not a scoring two guard either. Anderson should start one or the other, put Mathis at the two and go from there. Pinzon for Mathis, Storr for Jones etc.

Yea no doubt, he played great today. He's undersized for a center but knows how to use his body. However, Creighton is still on paper 20 points better than this team even with Walker in the lineup. My point was, any team no matter how good, has a poor shooting performance can look bad. Some people on this board like to make it seem like this is a problem only exclusive to St. John's and act like Johnnies are so poorly coached than can only beat bad teams. Syracuse, Temple, and Nebraska have now all beaten pretty good teams. Those are all solid wins.

Agree with everything but your last comment. Do you think that the soft schedule could have to do with the teams lack of preparedness today? The OOC schedule has two functions, prepare the team for conference play and help the Selection committee for a possible invite. This crap schedule accomplishes neither. The only thing it accomplishes is that it allows Andersons stellar non losing record to survive. If you are going to play in the Big East that OOC schedule must be upgraded and Anderson and Cragg need to be called out to do so.

When discussing the Mich beat down of Ohio St (football) last week, one of the commentators said "was this one bad game, or did Mich expose OS's deficiencies and are they not as good as they've seemed all season". Same holds true for us, granted we don't have a full season behind us. Again, some of our weaknesses today can be corrected. The question is, will they be corrected? That falls squarely on CMA's shoulders. Others weaknesses may not be correctable, like our weak outside shooting. Pinzon showed some promise today, but other teams will key on him if he starts hitting outside shots consistently. Not sure who else can step up. Also, Soriano needs help down low. IS was sending 2-3 guys to the boards on on every shot. They seemed to win most of the battles for 50/50 balls. For all his raw athletic ability, I do not see Nyiwe being much help. Stanley? Maybe, but need to see him against better comp. So, as of now we have no real outside threat and Soriano is our only real inside threat. Gotta hope CMA can fix that because other teams are going do exactly what IS did today, control tempo and force us to play a half court game.

As JohnnyFan noted, you're never as bad as you look on your worst day (thank the Lord)! Some random reactions to today's debacle:

If Nyiwe is going to get the kind of minutes he got today, we are in trouble;
We are going to need to play Pinzon despite his defensive limitations because he can shoot;
CMA needs to develop some kind of half court offense or we are sunk;
Jones is extremely talented but unless he plays smarter (i.e. inside) he won't come close to replacing Julian;
Mathis (and Soriano) are by far the most improved players on this team.

Posh and Curbelo's time on the court should be minimized. It is not working, and it will not work. Posh should be our point guard. Curbelo should be his backup. Get Jones to the 3 where he belongs, and use combination of Mathis, Pinzon, Storr and Wusu at the 2 and to backup the 3. Start Stanley at the 4 and use Nyiwe to backup the 4 and 5.

If you watched the Iowa State game it is clear, we do not have a dead eye shooter. They cannot score in a half court game and cannot shoot from the outside.
