2025 Portal

Yeah. Sanon was playing great earlier in the season but then got hurt around new year's and has been terrible since. Not sure if it was the injury, the B12 defenses, the unstructured nature of Hurley's offense, just regressing back after an unsustainable start or all of the above. He was one of the best Freshmen in the country the first month+ of the season
You can tell he's a big time athlete. I felt bad for their freshman. Him and Quaintance were both basically blackballed from getting the rock. JQ couldn't handle any double teams, but he's also someone else I'd take in a heartbeat. Also impressed by Ali's hustle. In a different college era, they'd be better this year.

It's a typical Bobby Hurley team of lots of talent but little to no offensive structure and extremely questionable shot selection. We dodged a bullet when he turned us down because he probably would have done only marginally better than CMA but just good enough to keep the job and not get Rick

Apparently one of the Kentucky reporters said on his radio show that Kerr Kriisa is petitioning to get a medical redshirt the intention of coming here next year. He did visit last offseason and rumor was he was ready to sign but Rick decided not to pull the trigger on it. I don't buy it unless the plan is for next year's team is going to have a completely different feel to it.

Trilly also said he hasn't heard about it yet and mentioned its not a good fit

Hard pass on Sanon...would welcome Quaintance with open arms.

I didn't want him last year and hope he doesn't come next year. Bad fit.

Many discuss getting studs as the end all, but neglect the team chemistry end of the equation. Of course you never know how things will turn out, but the vetting process is very important. Kansas has really struggled w portal additions in past two years and Self has recently stated the team chemistry is abysmal. To Matt and Pitino’s credit, this year’s group fared well in the chemistry aspect. Of course there are always issues between teammates, but the key is how well they avoid selfish play, share the ball, defend in tethered fashion and pull for each other. It would be great to replicate this year’s haul & team chemistry. I am confident staff will incorporate that into portal recruiting as much as you can in this warp speed process.

Rick alluded to targeting certain program's guys because you know there are standards (e.g. Zuby and Kansas, Scott and North Texas). I really like that idea moving forward. Micah Peavy came from TCU, a rugged defensive-first identity with Jamie Dixon. He's turned out great.

Obviously not going to work all the time, but looking at programs that preach defense-first and have smart head coaches could be a smart strategy. Houston, San Diego St, North Texas, UCLA, Tennessee are some that come to mind

The days of seeing guys grow for 4 years are over. Portal changed all that, along with no sitting out upon transfer. We are in a brave new world where roster retention is near impossible and nobody wants to wait their turn.

Mark Jackson sat behind Mike Moses as a freshman. Today he portals to an SEC school for a cool million.
