2024-25 Season

Big East play is arriving soon, I hope coach figures out his starting line up and sticks to it. He has to stop these slow starts.

I feel like I'm in Groundhog Day, we get to this point in the season every year where the schedule gets blamed

The schedule this year is/was fine. We caught some bad breaks in losing to Baylor in brutal fashion, Tony Bennett retiring right before the season which undoubtedly made UVA a weaker game. Georgia has had an excellent season so far but we blew that game too.

I'm not giving up on New Mexico being a solid win by March, despite their bad recent loss to NMSt.

As for "cupcakes", find me a power 5 team in the country that doesn't schedule cupcakes? It is part of the game.

Not sure how accurate these numbers are, but as you can see our schedule isn't exactly a joke. We are #34, teams like DePaul and Georgetown are in the 200s
While the schedule isn’t cupcakes we can’t point out a game that will help us much come tourney time. If you are going to compare our schedule to other teams, at least compare to other teams that will probably make the Dance not teams like Georgetown and DePaul who most likely won’t.

Marquette, Creighton, UConn and have all faced superior competition with some better results. Our schedule isn’t bad, but our results didn’t help us much.

I think the schedule is "fine", but overhyped at the beginning of the season. Also doesn't help that rumored contests against Alabama and Duke never came to fruition.

Also, the "bad breaks" thing is the exact argument why we needed another big game on paper. It helps minimize the risk.

The issue is that you're saying "to date". To date, sure.

Coming up next:
UConn plays Gonzaga
Louisville plays Kentucky
Tennessee plays Miami and Illinois
Who are we playing next? Bryant and Delaware.

Truth is - if we hold onto the win against Baylor, we play Tennessee instead of UVA and any complaints of the scheduling are nonexistent. I don't blame the schedule I blame the team for blowing that game personally. But yea I also get fans wanting one more substantial non conf game. Picking a team like KState is tough. Elite 8 two years ago, but NIT last year. You don't really know what you're getting there, could have been better to schedule more of a sure thing top team in that spot

I agree 100% Silly. We better finish Top 3 in conference with wins over UConn , Marquette and Creighton.

We didn’t blow the Baylor game really. The clock didn’t start right away. The last shot by Roach should not have counted. The game was played in the Bahamas, they wanted VJ in the final.

This is why we need another OOC game not reliant on a MTE to provide us another meaningful game. Same argument applied last year in Charleston. If we beat Dayton, we aren't playing North Texas, etc.

Big East/Big 12 showdown. Do you get to pick the team you play or are they assigned?

Actually we drew North Texas in the quarters. We won and then played Dayton. But I get your initial point.

I would argue that getting Georgia on the schedule, despite them technically not being a part of our tournament with Baylor/Tenn/UVA... was a meaningful (and neutral court) game. We just lost.

It is absurdly early to even look at this - I acknowledge that - but fwiw http://www.bracketmatrix.com/ has us in 31 of 31 brackets that are being put out at this point in the season. NET is solid at this point, top 15 in kenpom. Of course the argument can be made that the schedule could be better, but I just don't think our schedule will hold us back from anything, or a "culprit" if our year doesn't pan out. But then again it is all a matter of perspective. Take last year, some could point to our OOC as the reason we didn't get in, others could point to us going 1-7 in our games against the cream of the crop in the BE (Conn, Marq, Creighton). No one is really "wrong" in that sense I suppose.

I think I just typically lean towards wanting us to take care of business in conference play to prove we belong in the dance. Our OOC, this year to me was good enough to set the table where if we notch some good wins against the top of the conference, we will not be sweating on selection sunday.

PS - mods feel free to move all the schedule talk, just had a moment of clarity where I realized this is the Bryant thread ;) my bad

it’s not absurd to talk about. Our schedule gave us five chances to get meaningful wins. Getting a sixth or seventh chance is huge. I do think we need buy games. The Bryant one is fine. But there’s diminishing returns later in the season. We can’t rely on the big east for tallying our only meaningful wins. Road games can be flukey and familiarity makes games tougher

With the way our schedule looks, I really want to get as many wins as we can in December/January. February will be tough, but I don't want to be in a desperate situation for needing Q1A wins.

Post-Jan, we play: Marq 2x, UConn 2x + desperate Butler at Finkle + Creighton
DK - I saw this earlier today but what exactly is a Q1A win? This is a new one to me.

Roach played the clock. Cant say that he wouldn’t have shot it earlier if he had to. Think we need to get over this, if we made the shot, we certainly wouldn’t want to hear about it 😁

I agree it's not our schedule but our two tough losses to the best two teams we played. UCONN will also play Gonzaga on Saturday. I agree with NC Johnnie that one more quality game would have helped but that is past. The season is still ahead of us so let's see what happens.

still can't believe we lost that one... from up 18... to forcing OT...then double OT... then Up5... watching our fans on TV celebrate knowing a hard tough fought significant victory was in sight (Dave- camera did show u trying to rein in some emotions around you, knowing the game wasnt over lol).... to two Miracle 3s.... VJ over RJ (who didnt sniff a 3 all game).... to Roach's that shouldnt have counted....

ugh... we'd feel a lot differently with that Dub
