2024-25 Season

''Big 12's Brett Yormark says that leagues need "to clearly understand" what the key metrics are in the selection committee's evaluation & that he was told strength of schedule was "very, very critically important ... and I'm not sure that has happened, at least to date."
"Just hope this doesn't come back to bite us in the ass."

Of course it will if we don’t take care of business from here on out. You can’t blow two games like we did against quality opponents and not expect it to bite us in the ass come Selection Sunday the way the committee uses metrics now. You need quality wins. We only have one so far and that’s pushing it. Depends on how good New Mexico is this year. People fail to realize how damaging losing those loses to Baylor and Georgia become if we don’t kill it from here on out.

Win Saturday and win 13 in BE season and everything will be fine. As ESPKen said the past is past, let's worry about the future. The team's destiny is totally in its hands. No less than 4 Big East teams will dance - no reason we can't be one of them.
Too many nervous nellies

That quote is in reference to college football playoff selection.

Game at Providence will be our toughest test... first "Road" game... and for it to be Providence, kids will be in for it....

Completely unbiased... i dont see a Loss until Feb 7 lol
KenPom doesn't either! Our team is really good. I am sure we'll drop a game or two that is mind boggling and makes this board implode. But really good teams win tough tests. I'm confident.

look at that... me and the nerd callin it right

Looking at first five SJ Big East games, it is challenging start followed by a relatively easier slate in next group of five. If this Johnny team is as strong as I think, it seems holding serve at home while taking PC away seems very doable. I am not conceding wins at CU or X away, but they are tough environments. Let’s get off to a reasonable start and make some hay in subsequent five games. I obviously have a lot of time in my hands visiting NYC today. 😇

DePaul at home
PC away
Creighton away
Butler home
Xavier away

With the way our schedule looks, I really want to get as many wins as we can in December/January. February will be tough, but I don't want to be in a desperate situation for needing Q1A wins.

Post-Jan, we play: Marq 2x, UConn 2x + desperate Butler at Finkle + Creighton

Exactly

I feel like I'm in Groundhog Day, we get to this point in the season every year where the schedule gets blamed

The schedule this year is/was fine. We caught some bad breaks in losing to Baylor in brutal fashion, Tony Bennett retiring right before the season which undoubtedly made UVA a weaker game. Georgia has had an excellent season so far but we blew that game too.

I'm not giving up on New Mexico being a solid win by March, despite their bad recent loss to NMSt.

As for "cupcakes", find me a power 5 team in the country that doesn't schedule cupcakes? It is part of the game.

Not sure how accurate these numbers are, but as you can see our schedule isn't exactly a joke. We are #34, teams like DePaul and Georgetown are in the 200s
