2024-25 Rankings

Is the takeaway from this that we don’t have any quad one or quad two wins to we will have plenty of Quad 2’s and more than a few Quad 1 wins. Conference play just started and there will be a lot of positive movement in the coming weeks. It’s a positive in my eyes especially with a NET of #23 to date…Let’s Go Redmen!!!

Besides the four Q1 opportunities against Marquette and UCONN, the rest are all road games against teams close to the top 75 cut line except for Seton Hall which we have to beat twice. Assuming we play well at home where we stand at the end of the season will be the Marquette and UCONN games and our road record which I guess is obvious.

Not an official ranking, but still:

25. St. John's Red Storm (9-2)

Previous ranking: Unranked

St. John's has yet to notch a marquee win this season, losing in double overtime to Baylor and by three to Georgia in a four-day span in late November. But the Red Storm have elite metrics, ranking in the top 25 in the NET, while sitting in the top 15 at KenPom and Bart Torvik. Rick Pitino is getting breakout seasons from Zuby Ejiofor and Simeon Wilcher; the latter is averaging 13.3 points and shooting 40% from 3 over his past four games.

Next seven days: at Providence (Dec. 20)

And Baylor #24 in these rankings

The Johnnies would definitely pick up a LOT of extra AP points with a win @ PC, but I'm not certain it'd be enough to be ranked on Monday. Right now we have 50 points, while #25 Clemson has 175. Clemson lost yesterday, so after that you have #26 Mississippi St at 158 points.

It's certainly possible we could triple our point total, a large percent of the AP does pay attention to the NET rankings, KenPom, etc., and we've made big gains after the DePaul blowout (ESPN for instance took notice), but it'd still be extremely tough to make that kind of AP jump without picking up a major win.

If we beat PC by a solid amount and move up in NET again that'd make it more likely we'd be ranked, but personally I'd be happy with a win by any margin tomorrow.

Edit: also Jeff Borzello (ESPN) is an AP voter, so add another point to our total.

Did any teams in the 20-25 range lose this week that we can jump? Rankings aren’t that important but it’s still nice to see that number next to our name.
