2023-24 Roster

How exactly was Storr a square peg in a round hole? All Big East Frosh team members lose out because new coach was sitting in the house of a chucker from Towson and not giving Storr the needed pep talk to stay
Petino doesn't have to kiss up to a player for him to stay. Petino has earned that right. Let's see do I want to play for a hall-of-fame coach or wine that he doesn't love me lol. If it was me I would be requesting meetings, and talking to whoever and waiting on coach. Its like begging the CEO of a major company vs that CEO doesnt want to kiss up to me so im leaving. Dont let the door hit you on the way out

I dont think its mor complicated then Rick telling him, “Love to have you back, but due to your lack of defense, you will be coming off the bench playing 15 minutes a night.”

There are a few posters(very few) on this board who were not happy with the Pitino signing. It's pretty obvious who they are. They will look for reasons to criticize and question him. Guess we gotta get used to it. In fairness, I did the same to CMA. Only difference is I was right, and they'll be wrong 😉
Well said :)

No one has said he is a bad coach the issue is how he went about this. Management 101 Dont call out people at a press conference. He came across as pompous arrogant and had an air of I am better than these current players

I don't think anybody is denying the arrogance of Pitino. Look at all of the best coaches in sports, they are all arrogant and controlling. That is what makes them good at what they do. Pushover nice guys don't have success in that field.

Some real snowflakes on this board. First off, to the best of my knowledge Pitino did not call out any player by name. If he did, he shouldn't have. If he didn't, good for him. Maybe not your management style, but winners often have styles that rub people the wrong way.

He never called out any particular player. Just said he needs to bring in 6-8 players as some wont be a good fit for him. Plus storr and King what did they really show us? On the bench on a bad team? On a good team maybe walkon just saying.

Did you not know that he is arrogant and can be pompous before then? Did you pay attention when he was with Providence, the Knicks, Kentucky and Louisville?

Pitino did not get your memo and his inexperience is showing.

Please advise as soon as possible. He may be in over his head.

I don’t understand why people believe this is just Pitino pushing guys out. Sure that may be the case for some (most?) of these guys.

However, we might have to concede that some of these guys just want greener (in their mind) pastures. Some guys like Storr or King might be thinking this is a new Coach and I’m not sure I fit. I haven’t seen if the players have officially commented. Could be just a new start for some. Pitino is a proven guy. I am sure a plan will reveal itself over time.

Also, entering the portal is not final. Maybe Pitino told him to look around to make an informed decision and to come back when he’s ready. His own little Rumspringa like the Amish.

Good point... RP is new at this recruiting thing, might not understand how this will impact future recruits... If only he had experience in this area, we would all feel more comfortable in the decisions he's making. If only...
Not suggesting the world is caving in by any stretch and thrilled to death we have Pitino. But no one is infallible or above criticism and the SJU job is one hell of a tough job.

Knowing nothing about Storr’s work ethic or character, I think it’s fair to be disappointed he’s leaving. I find it ironic that several posters who fretted over Storr leaving for lack of playing time earlier in the year suddenly find him expendable.

I really liked those three kids, so it is sad to see them go and I hope they excel at their next schools.

However, to me the question boils down to this, if given the choice would you rather have Mike Anderson recruiting for you or Rick Pitino? The answer is obvious and this is 3 more spots for Rick Pitino recruits.
Why is the choice black and white? Can’t we be thrilled to have Pitino as coach yet still express concerns or be critical?

I liked Storr and King. I’ve always liked Posh and Wusu ended up winning me over. That being said the most important thing is that Pitino has players that he wants on the roster and that those guys also want to play for Pitino. Because he’s the coach and that’s what’s conducive to winning.

Storr was given the opportunity to stay, spoke to coach, heard what staying would entail and decided to leave. So I’m glad Storr had the self awareness to realize that he wasn’t a fit for what was being asked because having guys who want to give Pitino what he asks for is what’s best for winning. I wish all the guys well and would have been happy if any had stayed but Pitino wins and so I want Pitino to get what he wants. I just want to win. We’re all more than ready to do some winning so I’m glad to see whatever needs to happen starting to happen.

I thought the same thing. This is very similar to when your boss hired you at your job. Now he’s leaving Or fired. You have two options. I put my head down and take my chances. Maybe we work well together and just maybe we don’t.

OR, I say this guy didn’t hire me. He’s brought in to make changes and he didn’t bring me here. Why should I stay and have to prove myself again? I might as well look around and get more for what I’m doing. I choose who I work for. Just a thought.

Boo, at this point I'm not sure what we can criticize Pitino for as (i) he has just begun to assemble the roster he thinks he needs to win and (ii) we don't even know why Storr left. I'm sorry to see him go but if he left because he couldn't 100% buy in to Pitino's expectations of him, I would have to say thanks for the very good freshman year and good luck going forward. He also may have gotten an NIL offer from a big school that blew him away, who knows? But before I criticize a hall of fame coach, I'll wait to see the roster composition he comes up with.
