The whole game was broadcast on MLB.TVJust got lucky to see Judge's 62nd live, so happy for him. Game wasn't on here so was watching the Knicks on TNT. At halftime, I turned on MLB just in case and they were showing Judge's 1st at bat courtesy of YES. Judge is just a class act.
Didn't Teddy Ballgame do something famous / gritty, like play on the last day, when he could have opted out, and he risked losing the triple-crown or batting title, but he went 5-5 or something like that, and because of that he ended up winning the batting title or triple crown or something?Judge not.
Boone pulled Severino(who wanted to stay in) after 7 no hit innings and wouldn’t allow Judge ( not sure) to continue to pursue Triple Crown yesterday. In theory rest is supposed to be helpful to playoff success but they have a week off to rest! Doubt Judge would have asked out.Didn't Teddy Ballgame do something famous / gritty, like play on the last day, when he could have opted out, and he risked losing the triple-crown or batting title, but he went 5-5 or something like that, and because of that he ended up winning the batting title or triple crown or something?
Edit: Found it:
"He played left field for the Red Sox in both games, entering the day with a batting average of .3995 – which would be rounded up to .400. But Williams insisted on playing to ensure there was no doubt about his mark.
Williams was 4-for-5 at the plate in the first game raising his batting average to .404.
In the second game Williams went 2-for-3 to finalize his average for the season at .406.
With the .406 average in 1941, Williams became the first player since Bill Terry to reach .400."
With all the pressure of going for the record, Boone gave Judge a “mental health” day which was probably well needed even if not requested by a Judge.Boone pulled Severino(who wanted to stay in) after 7 no hit innings and wouldn’t allow Judge ( not sure) to continue to pursue Triple Crown yesterday.
