2022 Mets

Happy to see Alvarez get his first home run. We are going to need him next year.

He should be the starting catcher from Opening Day on forward, no ifs ands or buts.

I can't believe we still have McCann the next two years under contract. Would much prefer Alvarez/Nido and then an off-season upgrade at DH.

Did you catch Gary Cohen's remarks? He said that Alvarez seemed so much more relaxed last night and implied the Mets should have called him up long before Atlanta so he could get his feet wet before being thrown into the fire.

I agree with your premise that Alvarez should be the starter from OD. However, with McCann (he sucks) under contract and Nido (probably the genuine backup) I am not so sure how they will handle it. They seem to think his defense needs more time so playing as DH and not playing is not an option. Somewhere in his future is a 35 to 40 HR season. He has that type of power.

I heard Cohen’s comments and laughed. A few of us said as much when they called him up for Atlanta. A lot of fans thought the same thing. Of course, Alvarez was sidelined by an ankle injury late in the year. They thought or at least as reported thought his season might be over. Maybe that had something to do with it?

Remember Alvarez had an ankle injury in August and also struggled to adjust at AAA. Not sure when we should have brought him up.

Match up with Padres wiii be tough as they won season series 4-2. Darvish is almost an automanic win for them having beat us twice and giving up 1 run over 14 innings.

as to Alvarez, hope they start him at catcher tonight so they can see how he plays the position. He looked terrible in Atlanta and now being annointed as next year's starter--what a difference a day makes. I'll wait and see. Probaly all subs tonight with McNeil playing as he continues the race with Freeman for batting title--the only reason to focus on the game

Buck said today he's sitting McNeil. Freeman would have to go 4 for 4 to catch him.

As for catcher... when you have two of the worst hitting catchers in MLB and the #1 prospect in all of baseball is not only a Met but a catcher too, it seems pretty fair to think he's #1 on your depth chart next year. What wasn't fair was throwing him to the wolves in Atlanta, the equivalent of a high-pressured 3-game playoff series, as his introduction to ML baseball.

Freddie gave it and went 3 for 4. Game just ended. I guess Randazzo was predicting the win.

After the game Buck said he doesn’t want Alvarez playing for Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic. He needs him in Port St. Lucie. He said he believes that Alvarez, Baty and Vientos will make contributions next year.

We need to get some early runs. Can't have Max be stuck in a scoreless game going into the 6th. The Muttsies need to play angry and get through this team in 2.

Looks like Francisco Alvarez is ON the Postseason Roster. Interesting. At least he now has a handful of ML at bats. 😉 Youngest player (20) to ever be on Mets postseason roster.

Edit: So is Marte. He better be able to play. We can’t afford to play short handed.

Naquin and Vientos are OFF.

Good on those last two.
