2021 Mets

Baez has zero plate discipline it’s just hack away at anything thrown and try to hit it 500 feet.  Please don’t compound the mistake of trading prospects for him by resigning him. Just let him walk away.

Finally ran into a worse team that us :) Baez is ridiculous with these strike outs. Why would you add a walking K onto a team with strikeout issues.

Baez is not a player I would have wanted to pick up and he is a strikeout machine that I would not want back. If you can't put the ball in play you have a problem.

The strange thing is that with strikeouts being so prevalent the Mets are only 11th in the National League. The problem lies in being last in doubles and 12th in home runs. Some of this is injuries but you have to look at how much Conforto has struggled and to a slightly lesser extent McNeil and Dom Smith. The offseason should be interesting as there is a lot of work to do.

18 games versus these terrible Nats/Miami left is nice, but I think we have too many tough games left versus SF, LA, Mil, Stl Yankees and Boston to have any faith in making it in. That is 24 tough games. The games against the NL west will probably make or break the season.

Only 3 games left versus the Phils and Braves hurts too.

Four strong innings from Trevor Williams so far today. Maybe we had to take Baez to get him !

3 wins in last 24 hours! Hottest team in baseball. /media/kunena/emoticons/grin.png

You nailed it on the NL West games. I believe there are 13 straight against the Giants and Dodgers starting tonight. I can't see us winning many of these games.

Speaking from experience, the Jets are not a great fall back option (but hopeful for the Johnies)

Per Uncle Steve "It’s hard to understand how professional hitters can be this unproductive. The best teams have a more disciplined approach. The slugging and OPS numbers don’t lie." So getting Baez is a step in the right direction for more disciplined ? Can't disagree with the statement (although moves say otherwise) but I don't think this sits well in the clubhouse.

The statement is spot on. It's what separates good teams and the Mets. It's interesting because it's not only a shot at the players, it's a shot at the hitting coaches and everyone else associated with the game plan including Alderson and the interim GM. He already fired one hitting coach so the replacements weren't the answer. I think Cohen realizes that he can't solve it on his own. He needs to get lucky and find management that can rebuild the entire organization. So much fell behind under the Wilpons.

Not directed at your take as it is probably true but who gives a rat's patootie how it sits in the clubhouse. The ship be sinking.

Getting Baez was part of the solution?

Heard on-air commentary that Chili Davis was valued by hitters and that some players won't even talk to new hitting coach.  RoseAnn Roseannadanna time.  It's always something.  Or was that Emily Litella.

Definitely Roseanne Roseannadanna.

Emily Litella’s catch phrase applies to the 2021 season:
Never mind

Do major league hitters really need a hitting coach? Should t these guys know the basics of hitting by the time they have been playing the game for 15 years?

Batting coaches are closer to being psychologists than major league hitters (see Walt Hriniak’s stats)
