KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island freshman Omar Silverio has submitted his name to the NCAA Transfer Portal with the intent of exploring other opportunities in college basketball.

"Omar has made the choice to put his name in the Transfer Portal," Rhode Island Head Coach David Cox said. "After sitting with Omar as part of our year-end meetings, I am supportive of him finding a situation that is a good fit. We wish him the best moving forward."

Silverio, 6-4 a guard from the Bronx, N.Y., played in 28 games as a reserve for the Rams, averaging 1.9 points in 7.8 minutes per game. He contributed 28 rebounds and 18 assists while shooting .321 from the floor.

When's the last time we had a legit 7 footer here? And no don't give me DeLaRosa they don't count. Never played.[/quote]

Wonder if our guys stayed in touch and whether we could get back in there. Could be good piece in '20 if he was comfortable leaving West Coast.

No surprise

He would have gotten a lot of minutes here, even if he wasn't prepared for that kind of workload.

I imagine the Zags will take a long look at him.

Little PT & very good recruits coming in. It did not appear he was front and center in USC plans.

Frankly I am growing weary of “Transferitis” I realize we got some solid players this way, but I think Matt goes overboard on this a bit.

Agreed but probably by necessity IMO.

He gets a 9/10 for creativity but a 3/10 for talent evaluation.

Biggest qualm with going all-in on transfers like this is it perpetually leaves us with a short bench. Wright, Caraher, et al may turn out to be solid players, but they didn't help us at all this year. The best ability is availability...

I'm shocked

It's a crutch. Should be for established teams not those looking to establish.
