2019 NY Mets
I wonder what the odds are of Alonso ever hitting 50 home runs again. I mean he is crazy strong without being ripped, and hits bombs, but still.

Congratulations to him. He was a reason to see Mets play in person all by himself. His kid-like enthusiasm that was infectious make the Mets a very easy team to root for.

Really wish management would realize that opening their wallets would put us in WS contention by holding onto Wheeler and strengthening the bullpen.
Even in the steroid and juiced ball era only Sosa, McGuire, Rodriguez, and Griffey Jr have done it since 1970. It would be a tremendous accomplishment for Alonso to do it again.

The last 2 seasons I have picked up cheap great seats behind home in sept to see deGrom pitch. I saw 3-4 gems by Jacob, one on sept 11, 2018, and also his last starts 2018 and 2019. Joy to watch

I'm a Yankees fan, so I dont care one way or the other, but these owners are nuts. Wheeler is getting $118M and has a career total of 44 wins!!!!!!
Jack - do you think Wheeler is worth that much money?
I actually don’t but at the same time not making any offer is a bad look and him walking to a division rival has bad news written all over it. I’m sure he’ll have a career year for them

I think Brody knew what he was going to get so why waste the time. Also why take that kind of risk on an injury prone player, a real sore point with all our money tied up in cespidas

Why bother making “an offer” they were never going to pay him anywhere near that money.

The Mets probably had 3 years to sign him to a decent deal that would have paid him more than he was making but probably less than this FA deal. The Mets AND Wheeler chose not too. The Mets because he was often injured and didn’t perform. Wheeler gambled on himself and from a dollar perspective he won. Phillies are taking a huge gamble on a guy who has had mediocre results. Good luck to him. Well, not really.

Wheeler was a solid citizen and a team player so I really like him and of course he will probably do well now that he is no longer a Met but I can’t see paying him that much money even if our owners actually would. They need to invest more money in our scouting and rebuild our farm system hopefully something that can be done if they sell the team. If there is any truth to those rumors the new owner needs to get those clowns out of here ASAP. Unfortunately we missed the boat on not hiring Chaim Bloom from Tampa and now with Boston. My gut tells me he was too smart to go to work for the clown owners.

Apparently, it wasn't even the biggest offer. The White Sox offered more, but Wheeler wanted to stay East, because his fiancee is from New Jersey.

Not sure how you justify paying Wheeler who has a career ERA of almost 4.0 over 20 million dollars a year. Just plain ridiculous. I know that I am old, but I grew up in the era of Koufax, Drysdale, Marichal, Gibson, Ford and others who knew what it was like to pitch a complete game. I no longer follow baseball since it has become so watered down and mediocre, SMH.

That"s not old that's ancient. ;) :)

Most signings are just poke and hope; it's all about potential, some PR and very little about results. Let's face it, for us old timers, free agency, expansion, rule changes, etc. have all but ruined sports. Red Schoendinst (sp.) used to tell legendary stories about how afraid he was to go out to the mound to take Gibson out of a game.

Mets just picked up a centerfielder from the Asros who hit .227 with 10 hrs and 34 rbi so there's that.

Wait--
James Dolan offering to buy the Mets and do for the Mets what he did for the Knicks.

Well he is replacing Juan Lagares who hit .213 with 5 hrs and 33 RBI’s and makes less money so the Wilpon’s have to be smiling.
