2019-20

Plenty of time to extend him ‘next year ‘ if successful with new AC’s imo.

Don't disagree Chicago (although I leave that up to Cragg), except that I think we'd need to extend Chris before the end of next year in order not to disrupt 2020-2021 recruiting.
No extension if we're not bringing him back.

I agree NCJ it’s up to Cragg to determine that, and great point about 2020-2021 recruiting.
Hopefully, things break well out of this current uncertainty, good ACs get hired, do their job, and things look brighter at the end of 2019-20 than presently.
Let’s go Johnnies...let’s reconnect with a great St. John’s tradition.

Good point, Knight. That depends on whom we add to Staff in the next 1-2 weeks, what the roster shakeout is and the replacements, and what the W-L ‘count’ is at the end of ‘regulation’ next year.
Hey, totally keyed on these imminent additions, but if it ain’t broken at the end of next year, don’t fix it.
And that last sentence against the backdrop of our present malaise, sounds unbelievable.
Ya neva know.
Gotta laugh.

Not basing this on any one specific thing, but feeling much more positive about the future of the program then I did just a few weeks ago.

Probably just the distance of the 2 weeks since our late season collapse. ;) :)

Agree & hopefully not wishful thinking, but I just have confidence in Cragg’s leadership capabilities to effect positive change throughout the SJU Athletic Department.

Those scars won’t heal with just 2 weeks of distance. More than that lol

Hoping your feelings are right, all depends who stays and goes still, my fingers are crossed!

We could certainly do a lot worse, but I am not doing cartwheels over Ed Pinckney. It's been a long time since he's been in the college game (2007). Plus, he's yet another longtime Mullin buddy.
True but at least he's actually coached unlike Million Dollar Mitch
And he'd be something we sure could use: a big-man's coach.

I don’t understand the obsession with Pinckney and going back to 1985 constantly?? Time to get away from our Polk High days and take a step forward.

Understand your point but he does check a lot of boxes.

We have enough NBA guys. Ed would be an upgrade over Mitch for sure but we need someone with a 10-20 years of college experience. There are so many lessons the staff has to learn and it’d be nice if some of those didn’t have to come from mistakes. That’s why I like guys like Rice, Pecora, or the ultimate choice Calhoun.

Me too Tommy, but have strong sense they are. “Cautiously very optimistic” is probably the best way to describe it.

Agree. I wonder how relevant Pinkney's recruiting contacts are now, 12 years after he left the college game. Also, I disagree that "comfotability with CM" is a positive. We need a change of direction, not more of the same.

For me, of the names mentioned, I like Phelps and Hsu.

Don't dismiss "comfortability" so quickly. We've already seen what happens when there's a lack of it between the HC and an AC, and we ended up paying heavily for it -- something like four years of weak recruiting, plus millions of dollars.

Yes, agree we do not need anyone comfortable with CM. We need coaches who will do things the right and be able to coach college level athletes. Any hire should have HS contacts and be willing to put the work in to close on HS recruits.

Thanks Tommy, Monte
Yep I share your feelings
But it’s a process
Takes time - an unknown quantity
We posters and fans want the same as Chris Mullin, Mike Cragg and the players - progress
onto a winning program
Folks have clamored for change
Well
With Mike Cragg arriving and apparently Matt departing
We are changing!

He's been too comfortable. Time for a fire lit under his ass.

Scoring 4 touchdowns in one game is still pretty damn impressive
