2017 Transfers

Per Goodman
Duane Wilson leaving Marquette and will be a grad transfer. Can play immediately. Last player Buzz Williams signed.
is there grad transfer rule within conference ?

Per Jeff Borzello
New Mexico guard Elijah Brown will graduate and transfer, per the school. Averaged 18.8 points this season.

Son of Mike Brown of NBA who played a year at Butler.
this wouldn't be a bad stopgap if Lovett leaves

Seems to me that fifth-year seniors want to go to a team where they can (in some cases, finally) have a shot at a national championship ... and that they're not interested in being part of a program-building or program-reviving process. So unless one of these guys is a local product looking to come home, their chances of coming here seem to be me to be very slim.

Isn't NYC a place where a 22 year old can have some fun?

yes, MSG, yes NY, yes championship but listening to these kids pick programs they often say things like this as well:

- They made me a priority
- I like X, and his game and mine compliment each other
- I felt very comfortable with the coaching staff and players. It was family.
- I feel like I can learn a lot from ...

Aside from those types of considerations, personally I think that the concept of playing 1 year in NYC after having played somewhere else is in itself a selling point. Not grad transfers but some of it relates in that we've got two transfers that were highly rated recruits that transferred from potential championship contenders, from Kansas City by way of Michigan, another from California by way of Arizona. Seen these two guys on Twitter and Instagram and they seem to be really enjoying NYC as do Mussini, Alibegovic...

Nice observation
AND
like Mr.Ponds, there will be a local star whose priority is to stay local where his family can be at every game...I think of Mark Jackson, Malik Sealy, Ponds...even CM...
Other more astute posters here can likely add other names ...
But being close to family is a major factor to a kid who is close to his family...

How Ya Gonna Keep 'em Down on the Farm (After They've Seen NYC)?

You mean like Obepka had?

Per Rothstein
Princeton big man Hans Brase will be a graduate transfer, per a source. Per Ivy League rules, players can't play as graduate students.

Interesting article. Since 2011 UNC has had nobody transfer out. For a school that is in the top 25 every year and likely in a position to recruit over someone they haven't had one departure via transfer

Too many shared secrets. Stiff penalties for breaking the order:

Why transfer when you can get a good degree without attending class

I really should have prefaced to hold the academic jokes. I know I know. But let's not ignore how many of us went to SJU and sat in classes where athletes never showed.

Interesting.
Can we make an entreaty for a branch in Queens?

This Ivy rule stinks. When Cornell lacrosse stud Rob Panell went down with an injury he had to quit his classes and delay graduation so he could get his 5th year.

Same with Alex Rosenberg a couple of seasons ago at Columbia.
