2017 Transfers

According to Newsday a forward on Florida Gulf Coast has made the move to transfer . Anyone have info on him ?

Ask Newsday.

OK, I'll be nice. Kevin Mickle, 6'7 220 originally from Brooklyn. Not a center and not a scorer.

One of Matt's initial transfers targets per Rothstein

Duquesne transfer Isiaha Mike has committed to SMU, per his Twitter page. Good get for the Ponies.

Wow, Brown is long gone and SMU still getting talent. That's a great pick-up. I think this kid is going to be a very good player.

Sure that was an "M" and not a "J"?
:)

Per Rothstein
Sacred Heart's Quincy McKnight will transfer, per a source. Averaged 17.0 PPG. Long line for this one.

Pretty solid player from my area of Ct. Sacred Heart lost a talented kid to Cincy last year. Transfers really hurt programs like SH.

Also goes to show that the transfer window has not yet closed as there are still some who might decide to look for other pastures.

I personally couldn't go from Berkeley to Lawrence, but good luck to him. Would liked to have seen him at Illinois.

I liked the city the one time I was there, and the area where Vandy is was nice. I can see why it would be an appealing destination for a good student.

This was probably posted before, but I'm so disappointed with SJU's inability to sign a transfer big man....I'm just grasping at straws.

Anyway, with the closing of St. Anthony's over in Jersey, is there anyway to hire Bob Hurley? Lavin had his special assistant....Bob can clearly teach basketball. Bob might help lure some of the Jersey talent and might help mend some relationships with other high school coaches. I suspect there is some bad blood between him and SJU, but could it be cured with a job offer?

Didn't seem there were tons of big men grads transfers to pick from. Couple that with us being a program still trying to get on solid footing, and it's not all that appealing to those with only 1 year to play.

As far as Hurley, I wouldn't see this being all that attractive to him, or us. He probably wants to do more meaningful things in his remaining years, and for us I don't think he helps with young recruits that did not play for him.

If he were to do that he would probably do it with one of his sons

While SJU is still trying to get on solid footing I still find it strange that the staff couldn't bring in a grad transfer to play center next season. The rest of the roster appears solid, the need for a big man is compelling and SJU plays in a top league with a shot at post season play.
Some transfers went to higher rated programs but others went to less established programs. It is still a head scratcher. Most transfers are attracted to immediate playing time and our situation must be near the top of that list.

I don't disagree.

Which centers did you have in mind?

While it feels like there is a lot of playing time available, we still have Owens at the 5 who is very serviceable. He will split minutes, so doing that as a grad transfer isn't easy. Plus we all feel that the BE is a top league, but it doesn't seem to be that way when these kids watch ESPN every night.

Owens will be a jr w some added weight. So I agree, a grad transfer who wants plenty of PT, maybe taking Owens into consideration. Plus a big will see Clark at the 4.
