2017 Transfers

Xavier great at transfer game
per Goodman

Kerem Kanter told ESPN he has committed to Xavier. Green Bay transfer gives Musketeers big man who can play immediately. 11.3 ppg, 6.3 rpg

Wow.....that's a great pick up for them. Mack has that program humming along. Musketeers are a realistic threat to make a run every year.

I think it's funny how we are involved with mid major players and people call it a failure, but other schools land mid major players and they are praised as a great program.

Meanwhile Brady Ernst de-committed to Xavier. 3 Years and can play immediately. 6'10 Previous Iowa St commit but Matt is not following him...

Allow me to make my white white comparison.
Reminds me of Tyler Hansborough

If that's the case, Ernst would seemingly be a great pick up and eligible immediately...And, judging from the NCAA'S , there seems to be a resurgence of White Centers that can play. many Europeans but, also US born players , i.e Collins.. who could be a Lottery pick.

with ailing father could he get a hardship waiver? Would be huge for depaul but will probably end up with illinois or northwestern.

Don't think it necessarily means Chicago, or even Illinois. Just somewhere that's an easy drive or train ride.

And offers lots of PT.

How's Marquette on guards? That's a quick drive home. Even Madison is reasonable drive if it has to happen after flights cease for the night.

Also just remembered that Iowa was recruiting him hard. That's less than a four-hour car ride. I could easily see him going there.

From a general perusal of his stats he seems to be a perimeter player without much of a perimeter game. His height also seems overstated but like Williams from the left coast, do we need another 6'8 injury prone kid who eats up a scholarship for two years with only one year to play?
Per chance to dream our recruiting ace would have us in a better position with some 2019 kids. Hopefully we are not becoming a rethread factory because this is the first kid to transfer from San Diego State who was playing over 20 minutes per game in the past 10 years. Steve Fisher knew how to keep kids on campus.

Was it the 6 rebounds in 23 minutes a game that told you that? Or the 12 threes he took all year?

What does his rebounding # have to do with his projected position in the NBA? Shamorie averaged 4.4 rpg while Yakwe averaged 3 rpg. Does that make Ponds a forward and Yakwe a guard?

Fyi, from the exit evaluation from San Diego beat reporter:

"How much he was playing does not appear to be the problem, as it is with most undergraduate transfers. Where he was playing is.

His Twitter profile says: “Know yourself, know your worth” with the hashtag of “#League” -- a reference to the NBA.

Cheatham is generously listed at 6-9 but is probably more like 6-7 without the hair, and those close to him say he foresees his future at the next level on the perimeter. SDSU’s forwards do get the ball outside the paint more than most programs, particularly in its high-post offensive sets. But Cheatham’s effectiveness on the wing was limited by his shooting range and turnover rate, the latter being worst on the team last season at 3.3 per 40 minutes."

P.S. Of course there is always the possibility that Mullin uses his magic touch and transforms this kid better than Steve Fisher. We have already seen his magic with Amar Alibegovic, Williams and Ellison.

I'm confused, 1, can we or can we not project where a player plays on the court based on their stats? 2, who said anything about nba? 3, the only reason I brought it up in first place was because after a "general perusal of his stats" I had the exact opposite thought as you: that this guy knows his role and plays on the interior. Good rebounding numbers, low field goal attempts and a shooting % upwards of 50%.
