Did he tell you what schools he was considering ?

A poster on Xavier's forum posted that weather's had committed there, but that can probably be put in the same category as "in the bag" .

Weathers is a good player and I am sure would do very well at Xavier or wherever he goes.

Per Rothstein re former SJU recruit from St. Ray's
South Florida transfer Luis Santos is currently visiting Fordham, per a source. Will also visit Saint Louis.

IOW he's home for Spring Break. ;)

Random thought......

Before we say goodbye to Amar, it is worth considering that he is currently one of just two players we have taller than 6'7".

We know what he is, but there will be games when we need 8-10 minutes from a guy that is 6'9" 240 lbs. He also has three years of BE experience.

Maybe 2-3 minutes.

Previously mentioned as transfers were Keelon and Dedric Lawson and while I am intrigued, I don't see them as realistic possibilities.

Keelon and Dedric would have to sit for a year which doesn't help for the 2017-18 season, but would be eligible just as Ahmed graduated. Their stats at Memphis look like they would clearly fill a need. Assuming the brothers are transferring to the same school, then SJU might want to make a call. At this time of year, not many schools can offer playing opportunity at the relevant position and available scholarships and national basketball exposure.

Based on the linkhttp://host.madison.com/sports/coll...cle_76cde14c-0265-52a5-9a98-871f093e2cc1.html , the father would need a job with the team. From the scuttlebutt that was posted here (100% reliable, of course), SJU had the opportunity to sign Whitehead a few years ago, but SJU would have had to hire his coach (Tiny Morton?). We know how that worked out. ...Seton Hall turned their program around and became an upper echelon Big East program. SJU has its pride.

Final verdict...Nope...they sign with LSU.

Keep Amar around? if Amar is getting ANY minutes at the beginning of the season, they aren't going no to be in the tournament. They need 2 more bigs to not have this guy play.
He's not a big east player. Yes, he is tall, but how does that help if he's standing outside the 3 point lead me on offense and too slow to guard anyone on defense so he just fouls. And I've never seen him box out(well the whole team doesn't box out). 3 years Big East experience of traveling anytime he tries to dribble, hoisting up bad 3's, getting burnt on defense and foul trouble.
If this guy is getting ANY minutes, SJU is in trouble.

We have just two guys taller than 6'7". One is a terrific, high energy player (Owens) who spends half of each game on the bench due to foul trouble. The other is Amar.

As I said, we know what he is. I just wouldn't chase him out the door until we see what we get.

Personally I am against pushing any kid out the door unless they are a real problem child which was certainly not the case with Darien, Malik or Amar. If a kid wants to leave for whatever reason such is life and the reality of today's game I just don't like the idea of asking a good kid and teammate to leave especially when they are an upperclassman and should improve.

Dad was director of player development under Tubby. And this is by no means an endorsement of the move, but if ever there was a guy worthy of creating a job for, it's this guy. His two sons together are worth more than Whitehead, and there are two more sons on the way.

That said, if for some reason Mitch or St. Jean suddenly split, I would rather hire Penny with the hopes of tapping the rich Memphis market.

Sam Vecenie‏ @Sam_Vecenie

Keelon Lawson just said on Memphis radio @929espn that the four main schools for Dedric/KJ are Ole Miss, Iowa State, Kansas, Duke.

Gary Parrish just reported Kansas won out.

This is Mustapha Heron in an interview yesterday. Who knows.....but not exactly sounding like he's transferring.

Agree

"Freshman All-SEC Mustapha Heron was presented the most prestigious award, the Paul Lambert/Tommy Joe Eagles Memorial Trophy for Leadership, as the Tigers were honored at the 28th annual Auburn Basketball Awards Banquet Sunday at Auburn Arena.

The Lambert-Eagles Memorial Trophy is given in memory of Auburn’s 15th head basketball coach, Paul Lambert, who died in a hotel fire on June 6, 1978, in Columbus, Ga., and Tommy Joe Eagles, who died unexpectedly of a heart attack on July 30, 1994, two months after becoming the head coach at New Orleans.

Heron broke Auburn freshman records for 32 starts and scoring in double figures to start a season in his first 25 games. He ranked ninth in the SEC averaging 15.2 points and ranked 14th with 6.1 rebounds per game while shooting 44.2 percent from the floor, 42.3 percent from 3-point range and 77.0 percent from the foul line.

Heron was also awarded plaques for being named Freshman All-SEC and to the SEC Community Service Team.

The Waterbury, Conn., native is Auburn’s first Freshman All-SEC selection since DeWayne Reed in 2007. He created the Mustapha Heron Skills Academy and Reading Program for students at his high school, Sacred Heart, and students in surrounding counties. He has worked with the police department in his hometown on a weapons buy-back program."
