2017 Transfers

I know that everyone hates Lavin on this board for, well, reasons I guess, but the fact is we've made the tournament 2 times in 15 years and both were under Lavin.

Plus, I don't care how bare your cabinet is when you take over as coach, 1 big east win is unacceptable. To give you an example of how futile that performance is Kevin Clark also got 1 Big East win.

Here is Kevin Clark's cabinet when he got the win

Showtime Daryll Hill (as a freshman)
Tyler Jones
Andre Stanley
Kyle Cuff
Curtis Johnson

Those were his players on scholarship. But, don't worry he had Phil Missere as instant offense off the bench (in reality CuJo was probably the guy that came off the bench vs Gtown, I don't remember).

The point is no excuses. It's year three, Mullin has to make the NIT and have prospects on the NCAA the following year, if not we are looking at Brian Mahoney, a nice story, a true Johnny, but not a head coach.

To further your point, Stanley was actually a walk-on as well but he earned a scholarship which I totally respect. However I would point out one huge difference and that being that those guys were seniors with the exception of Jones and they had played together for a long time. Are we gonna argue who left the program in worse shape Jarvi or Lavin? Notwithstanding Keita and Pittsburgh the Jarvis regime was disastrous but the cupboard was truly gone in the wake of Lavin. Lavin did some good things, Jarvis did some good things. But in the end both screwed us over.

Regardless, no doubt about it, the team needs to produce this season to show real progress.

Misere was a starter on that team. Stanley never received a scholarship (although they were going to give him one) because his financial aid package covered all true costs (including some incidentals) some of which he wouldn't have gotten through his scholarship. This was changed this year by the NCAA where the scholarship now covers "the true" costs.

I am sorry but did we not improve this year? Did we win more conference games and games overall than the previous years? Was there overall improvementi? Our record improved over the first year and should also with the two added pieces who sat out this season. I read some of these posts and I swear many do not expect to see improvement despite the improvement on last year, what we have coming back and what we have that sat out (and the staff still trying to add more pieces).

Thank you SJU 85 Logan DNoonan et al.
It's old news but I suppose it's also current affairs that's worth repeating - I think most on this board
"get it"...

Chris Mullin:
1.inherited not only an empty cupboard but a program without a cupboard;
2.inherited an expansion team AND expansion teams always lose;
And there was no helpful AD on board;
3.we improved drastically, yes drastically from his year 1 to his year 2 - let's get real how many more Ws could one reasonably expect???
4. With all the clamor about recruiting, starting with ZERO recruiting connections he still managed to bring in sought after and/or talented enough recruits e.g. Owens, Ponds, Lovett ... the two transfers from big time programs I forget their names
AND Musini & Freudenberg who were sought by other programs and who we posters were so pleased to get

Time and patience and yes short term
Losing...like it or not

Finally check Mike K and PJCarlisimo- their early years were not so great AND they took over programs with more returning talent.

Amen and
:silly:
all the best

FDU grad transfer Stephan Jiggets tells me he has cut his list to South Florida, Pacific, Seton Hall, George Washington, UMass, and Fordham.

Lesser leagues get ravaged by wholesale transfer market. Perhaps a kid should be allowed only one transfer.

It seems as if the mid major programs are farm teams for the Power 6 schools
They do a good job of developing talent and then lose these kids to big programs
Same as in MLB - the old Expos and Marlins always had great farm systems
But they couldn't pay these guys later on so they had to trade them to big markets
When I was a kid, the KC Athletics were often called the farm team of the Yankees
If the NCAA dropped the graduate transfer option, you would cut out a lot of this

A result of the power conference disparity that has been created. If we weren't as successful overall as a basketball conference, we might have been relegated to the south of the tracks.

Please leave this to transfer talk. The Lavin nonsense has been moved to its own thread.

Texas A&M’s Kobie Eubanks and Caleb Smith transferring from program. Can’t keep up with this transfer list.

Goodman gets hard ons with each transfer.

More TV time to see those big lips smacking.

Chris Mack will be in to see Nebraska transfer Ed Morrow (6-7, 234) tomorrow. Soph forward averaged 9.4 ppg and 7.5 rpg in 23.4 mins.

Xavier plays transfer game so well & seldom reaches with targets. They also had a visit from that guard Weathers transferring from Miami of Ohio.
