2017-2018 Season

also is Wilson definitely eligible ? Just imagine if he's not , we get dealt with an injury, oh and then throw in some foul trouble ......disaster. Coming our way at SJU! Love our players but we need help!!

He's an A student. Graduated. See pic in the twitter feed on the right. Of all of the concerns and neuroses that a fan should rightfully have, this is a waste of energy. If you want to chew your nails and pull your hair for a few months about our lack of a big man, I'm with you on that.
well thats good to hear, thx paul

It's Memorial Day weekend. Chill out, remember our veterans who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and have a steak. You'll have plenty of time to complain all season long. :)

another year of no depth, and it seems to be getting worse. I feel bad for the kids because we have talent. This team needs another body!!!

I would disagree. We have had teams that were a lot worse off in recent years. I actually think we have good depth 1 through 3. We are definitely thin when it comes to true PF and center, but we have a talented bunch.
my argument is we are good to start the season, especially WITH Moose, but if we lose him, than get thrown our usual curveballs i.e.: mid-season transfers, injuries, academic problems, and of course foul troubles, can we recover then? Point is, I like many think we have a very talented squad, but our red shirts are a needed addition but we are expecting a lot from them and we learned last year we need depth and we virtually haven't improved body-wise. Im just saying why not use the ships on a year or two year player.

To me Yakwe is the wild card. He was coming on late season and if he comes back bigger and stronger could add major flexibility.

Unless M&M have a recruiting ace up their sleeves Fun better learn how to spell Alibegovic.
To leave 2 Scholies on the table for walk ons brings back Lavinesque nightmares.

I agree on two levels:
1) better defense and stronger defensive rebounding (important of course) would lead to
2) transition where he could really shine.

between him and Owens these two can really run the floor. until the defense develops however, this is lost. we barely saw it at all from Yakwe this past season. Saw glimpses of it first season.

Agree. I wouldn't mind seeing some videos of Yakwe putting in the work. I hope he shares some of the off-season commitment Owens is demonstrating.

An improved Yakwe would cure a lot of issues

Here's three seconds of Yakwe working on his hand/eye coordination

One of the player videos I saw recently (maybe Bashir?) had Yakwe in the background tossing balls (hands work) with a trainer.

there you go

Clark is our best PF option.

Then being our starting center to preserve Owens early won't be that much of a stretch for him.

Because that's where I think he plays until the point in the game when Ahmed shifts to SF or bench.

And here I thought Clark and Owens would be starting alongside Ahmed, Ponds and Lovett.

I think it all depends on whether Mussini actually leaves. If he does, I think Simon becomes super sixth man and they go with some starting combination of Owens, Ahmed, Clark, and Wilson up front.

If Mussini doesn't return, Matt needs to find a fifth-year guard immediately. I think that becomes even more important than the big man he never found.

Fans are not satisfied with a bench of Clark, Owens, Mussini, Wilson, and senior Amar. Good luck coach Mullin!

Owens is our only capable big man, how are we gonna start him? Yeah, that's sad but it's the truth. I'd save him until the under 12minute TO.
I hate to say this but unless we get another capable big man, or Yakwe improves a whole lot, we're probably a NIT team.
To me the different between the NCAA and the NIT is just one big man, and it looks more and more that it will depend on Yakwe.
Ya got 5 months to work on your game big guy.

This is not specifically aimed at you, but I am amazed at how many people and even companies don't seem to understand the difference between Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Then again, little surprises me anymore.

Memorial Day is for the Fallen. Those that did not come back. Honor the Fallen.

St. John's will host Sacred Heart as part of its 2017-18 non-conference schedule, per a source. #SJUBB

Honestly, with what we already know about the schedule this year, I am OK with the rest of it being made up of low majors at home.
