2017-2018 Season

It would make sense since he [ Justin Simon ] can’t shoot. No need to clog up the lane anymore.

Hey 13 ...... how many actual games have you seen Justin play to lead you to conclude "he can't shoot"?

I have to figure Mitch and Mullins strong point is teaching these kids how to shoot.. He probably has improved a lot in the redshirt year. But, we will find out soon enough. That said. Mullins believes Lovett and Ponds are the superior shooters . Hence, the comments about them playing off the ball. But, as other posters have noted , we will probably share the ball handling skills. We are going to have a dynamic and entertaining backcourt this year. Trimble was an important pick up for depth and the future.

First off get out your feelings it’s not that serious. But logic dictates he couldn’t shoot well at Brewster Academy ( that was his flaw), Sean Miller benched him and limited his minutes because he struggled to shoot the ball ( another sign), and if you watch the team practice on instagram, you hear Shamorie and Marvin Clarke ( who I assume is his best friend on the team) scream he can’t shoot.

Logic dictates = He’s can’t shoot well ( good point made by usguard )

Side note: There’s nothing wrong with that ( being a non-shooter), Elfrid Payton out of ULL was not a good shooter ( great player), Kris Dunn out of providence, not a good shooter for the first three years ( still a great player), John wall out of Kentucky ( not a great shooter) still a fantastic player. You get the idea.

Justin is a slasher and point forward, which is perfectly fine for this team. He can penetrate, dish, and defend. That’s good enough.

So Justin Simon is our main point guard this year according to Zach.

You mean is he can shoot is just not a great shooter Does anyone know what his 5 % was from deep or from inside the 3 pt line How many shots was he getting at Zona etc
Perhaps he can shoot better than we think

9-21 from the line (42%), 1-3 from deep, 50% FG at Zona. Shooting is his biggest flaw. Mitch and Mullin will fix that.

I don’t think DLO was a great shooter. But, he was crafty and knew how to score.

If I have the body, I might as well use it.”

Paging Amar Alibegovi.

Amar Alibegovic......please report to the lower portion of the paint. Thank you.

When I spoke very briefly with Amar at the BE Media Day (he recognized me from talking with him & his mom at the Herald Square subway station a few months ago; really nice kid), I tapped him on the chest and said, "We need you to hit the boards," he smiled and said, "I know." Hope he lives up to it.

I remember your original post about meeting him. I have a soft spot for Amar. Not surprised to hear he's a good kid.

He also appears to have good taste with the ladies

No offense, but, if Mullin and Richmond are so good at teaching these kids how to shoot, why can't Yakwe hit the side of the barn from anywhere beyond layup range?

If this kid ever developed a consistent midrange game, he'd be lethal

Tariq seems like he has solid support around him and is willing to work hard

His dad definitely works him hard, while at the same time being a completely reasonable and realistic guy who takes the long view.

I'm really happy to have both son and dad associated with the program.
The anti-Lavar Ball.

I initially thought about making the comparison, but I actually think Lavar is for the most part a great dad. He's just a douche when you stick a microphone in his face. Although I do believe that home schooling the youngest one was a mistake on his part. Should have just sent him to Oak Hill or Montverde.

He didn't say he was main point guard, he said he'd run team.

I don't see him taking many threes, but he'll be able to drive on his man from the SF position and get layups when he isn't setting up the offense. Plus he can rebound for us. He sounds like what I thought Tim Doyle would be, until I realized that Doyle was five steps too slow for the Big East and had no coaching while he was here.

He could a also add an easy 4 points a game by catching the ball and finishing his dunks.

Our old friend Briscoe was a 29% shooter from 3 last season but worked pretty well with Monk and Fox.

Per Zach B: "It's already clear that Marvin Clark II will be the "go-to-guy" for media at St. John's. Terrific quote". #sjubb

This is a very easy group of kids to root for. No baggage, coachable & team first approach it appears. Looking forward to it.

I can't wait for the season to start as well
If we can stay healthy, I think we have the potential to eke out a 20 win season

Thanks for that info Not to concerned because we have enough deep shooters He can score by getting to the rim rebound and set up others to get off their shots and he can play D .Williams and SIMON At guard for a few mins will be interesting
