2017-18 Transfers
Looks like a do it all big, drop step pivot moves, out side shot, especially liked his passing ability. Poor man's Bill Walton. Have to assume will be highly coveted by many high majors.
Although, it's just a highlight vid (which, I hardly ever watch these days).... His passing jumped out at me while watching it.

Agree about highlight videos because everyone makes every shot so look more for the way he moves around the court, moves he has, passing ability (most don't show passes).

Per Goodman
Maine senior guard Aaron Calixte told ESPN he will transfer. Eligible next season. Averaged 17 points per game this year.

This is the kid. Highlight videos are no substitute for a staff's due diligence, but what I see here is exactly what we have needed for a long time. I agree with Mase.....would love to see us go all in on this kid.
Here's the main problem, we don't have a starting spot to offer this kid. Offering him Owens starting spot could very well cause Owens to transfer himself. Schools who have major minutes to offer might have a better chance.

Hope this guy is pursued if a grad transfer.

After shooting an insane 80% last season, Devontae Cacok knew more attention could come by winning. Tonight, his Seahawks face Northeastern in the CAA semis

I count two definite starters, and two guys you need to lead to believe that they will be starters. There's one spot open.

I don’t care about specifics, but we need a transfer big immediately. He doesn’t have to be J’raan Brooks nice, but he should at least be good enough to score here or there.

This is suppose to be Matt speciality.

Close the board, no post will ever beat this one.

I understand where you're coming from. But I have a hard time believing both Dixon and Keita sat out a year to come here and being content to come off the bench. As far as Clark and Owens, they have the ability to transfer too. Gotta keep them happy.

It has and will continue to happen with Kofi Cockburn.

Clearly those jokes should be focused around the clap.

You have 2019-20 to keep them happy -- neither Dixon nor Keita would transfer after 2018-19 if they had to come off the bench next season, especially considering that one of them will definitely have to do so anyway. And neither Clark nor Owens would be able to transfer if after a few games next season one of them had to come off the bench. Aside from that, an insider on Johnny Jungle said recently that Owens returning is still up in the air.

Assume this is the same Tubby Smith who quit Tulsa to go to Georgia, quit Georgia to go to Kentucky, quit Kentucky to go to Minnesota (only job he stuck around long enough to get fired from) and quit Texas Tech to go to Memphis? LOL

Have we determined that WW is better than / deserves to start over Keita? Next year may witness several ‘starting’ lineups, one a 3-guard setup, with Ponds, Simon, and Dixon—backed by Trimble(?), and Williams; the other a traditional lineup of 2 guards, Clark, Owens (?!!?), Keita—backed by Roberts, Diakite, another big(?).

Our line up is a no brainer next year.
Ponds and Dixon start in the back court.
Simon, Clark and Owens up front. Clark shoots the 3 so well and can board. Simon is a great rebounder and scores best on driving to the basket.
If Dixon goes out Simon slides to the 1, Clark to the 3 and Keita comes right in. Keita will also back up Owens in the post.
Roberts and ME should each get 10 plus minutes a game at the 4 and 5 and Williams should get 10 plus minutes a game at the 2.
We will see what kind of shape Trimble gets in over the next 6 months.
No clue as to Yakwe or Diakite right now but wish them both the best.
Seems like we have a deep team but that is what I thought this season, so who knows ?

My take fwiw is we don't need to get too concerned at this point about who starts next year. It is more critical that we get a big man, whether through grad transfer or JUCO option, who has a low post game, can rebound and give us significant minutes. While I expect both Owens and Keita to get plenty of minutes at 4/5, not sure either of them will give us much of a low post offense which we need. From reading posts of others far more knowledgeable than I on the newcomers, seems like next year should be a learning year for Roberts and Marcellus. I would hope that we have a core rotation of Ponds, Simon, Clark, Dixon, Owens, Keita, the to be identified big man whether WW or someone else, with either Williams or Trimble serving as 4th guard. It will be great to finally have some depth. Of course all this can change if not everyone returns.
