2017-18 Transfers

I realize this hasn't come to be (yet) and, Brellstorm, I realize you're just keeping us all informed, but it's cases like this that I don't get. Are we more interested in recruiting transfers from schools like Grand Canyon at the expense of recruiting talented metro-area HS kids who, theoretically, are supposed to be the backbone of our program?
I think this thread is just a generic list of transfers vs. the Guys on Matt's Radar thread which is more who folks think STJ is or should be targeting.
I thought I made that clear in my post. If not, my point was I'd like to see us be very, very, very selective in even considering transfers from lower-level programs who'd be taking 'ships away from metro-area kids (or maybe the occasional not metro-area 4 or 5 star kid). When he took the job, Mullin (and I'm not against him at all, just disappointed in some of his decisions) made it sound like recruiting locally was a priority, and yet we lost someone like Luther Mohammad because we signed a mid-major transfer and a lower-rated kid from Florida.
There was actually some form of detachment, per our overall staff, when it came to Muhammad's recruitment.

Hey Red. You think we lost LM because we had signed Dixon? You may be right about that—immediate PT seems to be the elixir these days in a hoped-for 2-Year max college ‘run’.
Trimble signed before Muhammad decided? I didn’t think so, but now I think you’re right, because I recall we got Greg Williams following the disappointing loss of LM.

We were telling Luther he was our #1 recruit. Meanwhile, we already had five guards and not a senior among them -- Ponds, LoVett, Simon, Trimble, and Dixon. Not exactly attracting him with lots of PT.

History hasn't been kind to us in those situations, can't blame the staff for taking the sure thing over a guy who could just be stringing us along.

What would've happened if LM burned us? We'd do what we ended up doing: signing Greg Williams.

I am sure Muhammad chose Ohio State for some pretty good reasons. Dixon has a solid season under his belt and should work out well for us. I think it is a good recruiting strategy in today's recruting market. FSU just picked up a kid from Albany.

Wojo not a favorite of mine, but does recruit his tail off

Mullin heading to Canada soon too. Has tickets to a Toronto Maple Leafs Stanley Cup opening round playoff game. Going with Mitch.;) :)

There is no interest in Joseph Chartouny on our part , I too do not believe we need a pg for next season.

Who said anything about Chartouny? They owe for your indefatigable support! ;)

I would think Jones is out of our league but who knows. If we can't add another player for next year and no one else leaves our roster is -

Ponds
Simon
Clark
Dixon
Keita

Trimble
Roberts
Williams
Diakite
Earlington

Too many holes imo and very concerned that 19-20 will be worse. Unless something changes quickly I was very wrong about Mullin.

He wasn't NBA-ready after two seasons, being recruited over and a couple players may stay, and there just isn't enough time for him. This is what happens to a few of these kids who are too enamored with Kentucky and believing it'll catapult 'em to the NBA.

I might take a flyer on him. Possibly?

Starting line-up would be basically replacing Ahmed and Owens with Keita and Dixon. Not the year four roster improvement I imagined.

Mount St. Mary’s freshman Jonah Antonio told ESPN he will transfer. Averaged 11.3 points and will sit one to play two. 6-foot-5 wing from Australia who played at Sunrise Christian.

Same for Wenyen Gabriel. I think Gabriel will be a stud in the NBA, he made a mistake going to UK. He would of been the man almost anywhere else. He has some point forward ability. I always say I don't know why non top 20 players go to Kentucky they will get buried; same for Duke. Its where 4 star or low 5 star players go to die and waste their eligibility. These kids have to stop following and be willing to lead their own teams.
