2016-2017 Season Thread

Fair points, but I guess I just hate sitting through these type games. :)

We have to pay for this garbage schedule as season ticket holders? This home schedule is horrible!

Would you rather see them get blown-out? I only go to Garden games so I generally only see us vs good teams and during Norm years I think we lost every game I went to except the Larry Wright game vs ND or Pitt when he won it at the buzzer. Average margin of loss during the games I went to during Norm years was like 85 I think. Give me a cupcake any day I say

I think you are all forgetting battle for atlantis as possibly 3 games.

I think the schedule is almost set
18 Big East Games
LIU Brooklyn - Barclays
Nicholls St
Longwood
Binghamton
Delaware State
Bethune-Cook
@Tulane
@Minnesota
3 @ Battle for Atlantis

I believe that leaves us with 1 or 2 more to schedule that would probably be Fordham and Holiday Festival.

LIU-Brooklyn, Nicholls St., Longwood, Binghamton, Delaware St., Bethune-Cook, @ Tulane, @ Minnesota. SJU non-con hinges on Battle 4 Atlantis

nobody is saying don't schedule some confident builders, but SIX? come on thats just weak, no way to slice it ( pardon the pun )

We have 5, a total of 5 returning players, 3 of whom should get substantially less minutes this season, with a total of 6 years of playing time between them. As a matter of fact the 5 returning players have less or the same combined experience as last seasons 3 returnees. We add 6 new players, of which 4 have never played a game of division 1 ball and 2, Tariq and Darien barely played. Who and what do you expect us to schedule ? This team needs to learn to play together, to know one another and to find out who they are. I do feel for the fans who have to watch them play a few patsies. I don't have that luxury though I wish I did. However, I imagine a beating or win over Nichols State is preferable to a loss against a much higher ranked Big East Team. Remember the experts still have us 9th in the BE. I remain optimistic that we will double our win total if not better.

The downside is that our not ready for prime time team loses to Nichols State.
if thats the case i have a good 4th grade CYO team for them. Come on guys, sounds like your expectations are low already and are kind of babying them....typical milliniels....this is THE BIG EAST, NYC, supposed to be New York City's power team. Play a tough schedule, if they are "young" the losses will be a good learning experience. Wins against 6 weak opponants and a possible loss or two could only backfire. Again 2 cupcakes at the MOST! Horrible horrible schedule!

I agree. And from a recruits viewpoint it could be a turn off.

Not really concerned about our out of conference schedule for the upcoming season. This is still a transition year as far as I am concerned. Can worry about our strength of schedule when we are a tournament team.

Three brothers moving, we move it, move it, Whoa you're gonna need five brothers for this job.

after last year I'd rather have a cupcake schedule even if i stops us later on from getting in the tourney which I don't think we are getting into anyway

This year it's better to pad the win column than have a killer schedule with no moral victories in losses
Agree..as much as I would like to play a better OOC schedule and believe that we should (when ready), we cannot afford another poor season record-wise...As Lavin found out, "buzz" is fleeting and you have to win else kids look elsewhere

Llike most of us, not advocating a "killer" OOC schedule but wouldn't mind seeing an going series with Holy Cross, Temple and Princeton (to name 3)

I'm sure we all can name other teams (Boston College ??) that would draw greater interest from our fan base than some of the current OOC teams we are facing this coming season.

I like the BC idea and that's like playing a D2 team so that could be one to pad our win total and road trips to boston every other year would be fun :)

i am surprised that StJohn's no longer plays fellow Vincentian Niagara University.

One of those brothers would be too much down low for our rail thin frontline. Would have to double him

They may be even tougher with rumor of Chris Obekpa & Sheed Jordan joining "dolly brigade" at "Three Brothers State".

Shamorie Ponds and Bashir Ahmed will arrive for second summer session. Richard Freudenberg arrives in late August. #sjubb

So by all of our players Matt really meant most of our players but not 3 of the newbies but including two guys who won't play for another 16 months. ;)

IOW returnees and transfers accounted for. Still, time for those who can make it to get to work!!
