2015 Bracketology

Reading comments on this board, you'd think we were mathematically eliminated from a spot in the tournament. Yet the experts still have us in. We still have work to do, but we're still in position.

Well with Nova on the road, Gtown x2, Xavier x2 and this teams propensity to drop games they shouldn't (i.e. Depaul and Creighton) you can see why some here are painting a bleak outlook. If season ended today maybe we get in.

The outlook as been bleak on here for a few years now.

we still lack depth and are more likely to find injury harder to overcome then the team's we be fighting it out with. If this year's team gets a bid, a wonderful achievement it would be.

Oh I agree, but that's why we play the games. We won't be favored, but you never know. I'm an eternal optimist lol.

Ironically ,that is not bad , considering how bad we ve been lately. Our fate is still in our hands. Put a few wins together and we are right back in it. That said I, like many posters, have not been optimistic lately. I think a lot depends on DLO. I think he is still injured, resulting in subpar performances and there is no reason to believe he will make a miraculous recovery for next game.

Big game coming on the Big Ten Network now.

Minnesota hosts Purdue.

Not only does lunardi have Purdue listed right above us on the first four out list, but a Minnesota win could also help our cause as well. Big game for us

First four out per Lunardi:

11 seed per Jerry Palm, but having to play Wichita St. in Omaha (not good):

http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/bracketology

playing them in Omaha isnt good but its better than being in the dumb Play In game in Dayton.

I would be for playing in the First Four, if you would guarantee me a victory, because then I believe you are at an advantage over your Round of 64 opponent. However, you are not guaranteed anything is this game, so yes, what Palm has is better.

Still, if we ever did get to the point of being a 5 or 6 seed, I would be rooting like hell for us not to get a first four winner. In any year.

To really catapult ourselves back on track, we need to beat DePaul and split on the road v. X and GTown. Tall order, but if we go 1-2 in those 3 that brings us to 5-8 with a mountain to climb to get to 9-9. 2-1 gets us to 6-7, 9-9 becomes more attainable. Significant swing as 3-2 in our last 5 would outstanding work, so these next 3 really set up how meaningful that performance would be.

DLo looked like he was back against Creighton. If he's playing like that I believe we can do this! Beat DePaul and start a streak!

someone just tweeted at me that 9-9 gets us into the NCAAs, which to me is not a lock.

hypothetically speaking, if we are 9-9, i see our 5 remaining wins as:

Depaul
Seton hall
Xavier (home)
GTown (home)
at Marquette

with three losses:

at GTown
at Xavier
at Nova

So going into the BE Tournament, we would probably be behind:

1- Nova
2- Butler
3- PC
4 - GT
5 - X

assuming Depaul fades and we can leap frog them to 6, i think we can then beat Providence in the 3/6 game then hopefully Butler in the semi final, which would give us:

3 wins vs Providence
Butler
GTown
Xavier
Seton hall
St Marys (fringe "good win")
Syracuse (fringe "good win")

This scenario would get us in regardless of if we win or lose the championship in the BET, but i think at 9-9 we are really playing with fire and may need a title game in the BET to avoid the St Johns Invitational AKA the NIT.

If we can somehow go 10-8 and get into the 4/5 position, i think we are a lock then regardless of what happens in the BET because that also means we have a road win vs Nova/GT or Xavier which would be HUGE

Nevertheless, it is a very tough mountain to climb, but on the same hand very possible.

It's a shame we are going through these what ifs with a veteran laden team and coach. So we beat DePaul, who cares? Need to beat Hoyas and Nova
