2015 Bracketology

Cuse may have tough season, stating obvious;

@syrbasketball: Halftime: Clemson 39, Syracuse 18.

Ouch! :p I just can't find it in me to wish them a good season for purposes of helping our SOS. If that's what our NCAA bid hinges on, then we probably don't deserve one.

Back to first four out, according to Lunardi.

Personally, I think it's wrong for him to penalize us for losing to Duke (regardless of how you thought the game went), but that's what he did.

2 & 5 since 12/31, not exactly trending positively. Win some BE games & then see what respect we garner.

But, he had us in before the Duke game. If we were first four out before, and stayed that way, I'd see your point, but we fell because we lost to Duke, which is just wrong, IMO.

If we win our next two games we should jolt into the field and not just the first four, so it's pointless dissecting it now. If the tournament started right now, I agree we should be out. But there is a lot of games left, and a postseason tournament.

it's still a loss any way you slice it.

you dont get an NCAA Tournament bid with a .3333 winning percentage in conference and your best OOC wins vs an average Syracuse team and St. Mary's

when you are on the bubble a "moral victory" wont help our case. the bottom line is we have blown double digit leads in the second half of two of our last three games, which, had we won, would put us at 14-4/3-3 which has us in the tourney as a lock with a great "banner win" vs. Duke for our resume'.

I didn't say bump us up. We should have held steady, irregardless of weather you think we should be in or out.

Bottom line, we were "first four in" prior to yesterday's game. Result should not have changed that.

It's just something I've always had a problem with. #5 team plays #1, loses in the manner we did, and drops 4 spots in the polls. I've always thought that to be wrong.

And other teams moved up won I assume. This is not very important now. Beating Creighton is a start to digging out of BE hole we made for ourselves. To me that is all that counts until the next game.

Could @Syracuse be more of a signature win by the end of the night?

They lead 40-35 at halftime @ the 13th ranked UNC.

Steve Lavin and St. John's would have been in the NCAA field -- if they had held on against Duke.

This edition of "Bracket Math" includes games through Sunday, Jan. 25. Rankings reflect an up-to-date seed list from yours truly, posing as one hypothetical member of the NCAA men's basketball committee.

For the record, I've always liked St. John's and spent a lot of friendly time with Steve Lavin during his ESPN days. But it was clear to me Sunday as Duke sprinted past the Red Storm that his team is a tease. And that Selection Sunday isn't going to end well for the Johnnies.
