2015 Bracketology

I just checked out the bracket that Lunardi has up there now, and I am starting to think that this game tomorrow is really important. If we lose the next two games, we are most likely looking at a 9 seed, which plays the 1 seed the second game. If we were to win tomorrow, we could be looking at a 6 seed which has a much easier road to the sweet 16.

Lunardi isn't the best picking the seeds. I wouldn't put too much weight into it.

I was really talking in terms of what seeds play each other after game one. Like the winner of the 8/9 game plays the winner of the 1/16 game. So if we were an 8 seed, our next game would be against a 1 seed. But if we were a 6 seed, our second game would be against the winner of the 3/14 matchup. I feel we would have a much better chance of winning against a 3 seed (obviously).

From Bubble Watch:

We've got to admit: We did not see St. John's coming. If you'd told us a month ago that we'd be locking up the Red Storm at any point before Selection Sunday, we would have politely informed you that the Bubble Watch doesn't cover the NIT. From Dec. 31 to Feb. 3, the Red Storm went 3-7, lost to DePaul, Creighton and (pre-collapse) Seton Hall, let a home game against Duke slip through their fingers, and generally looked like the kind of talented but disjointed outfit that costs coaches with just one year left on their contracts -- in this case, Steve Lavin -- their jobs. Since then, the Johnnies are 7-1, including a convincing win at Marquette Wednesday that eliminated any and all bad-loss potential from the regular-season schedule. On Saturday, the Red Storm go to Villanova, where a win would be insane and a loss doesn't matter. They've swept Providence and Xavier, beat Georgetown handily on Feb. 28, and are playing their best basketball at the best possible time. Believe it or not, the Johnnies are a lock.

I love looking at the bubble watch and seeing that St John's logo in the locks column...so sweet!

Same here haha. Doesn't get any better than that
Yes it does. Winning games in the tourney.

I'd be happy with a 6, 7, or worst case 10 or 11. Don't really want to play a number 1 seed the first weekend.

PS just looked and I'd love to play any of the 3 seeds.

Maybe this is the year a # 16 beats a # 1 and we get lucky and play them.

Seriously I would like another shot at Duke as I think we could take them when healthy. Preferably we see them later but it's going to be real tough to move up to a 6 or 7. We might need to win the BET or at least beat Nova twice and lose in the BET Finals.

Win Saturday and they enter the tourney as a top 25 team. That's good enough for 6 or 7. One win in the BET would seal it. ;)

Hope you are right. I want the BET title! Been ages since we even made the final.

I am hoping we get put in the South, 2 wins the 1st weekend and D'Lo gets to come home to Houston to play in front of the family and friends at NRG Stadium.

I'd like Duke in the final four...not in North Carolina. Kentucky would struggle against Duke in
Duke's home state. I'm sick of moral victories.

Witchita St lost to Illinois State today in their conference semis. They play Northern Iowa in the finals. Northern Iowa needs to win or someone falls off the bubble. Also Murray State losing to Belmont at the half. Don't see Murray State getting an at large bid but they are ranked #25.

Murray State being ranked 25 is a joke. They literally haven't beaten anyone

I don't know about top 25 but I do believe this team deserves to be dancing even though they probably won't get selected.

The Ohio Valley is historically a solid mid major conference and it's teams have performed pretty well in the Ncaas. After 11/29(when most teams look nothing like they do now and everyone only cares about football) they were undefeated until today. They lost to a quality Belmont team by 1 point in an exciting, well played game.

They beat a very good Illinois St, team who is in the championship game after beating Wichita St. They also have wins against teams around the top 100 like W. Kentucky, Evansville and Belmont. Of their 4 losses in November, 1 was at Xavier and another was neutral with Valpo, neither should hurt them.

In my opinion, these are the teams that make the tourney more interesting than bubble teams from major conferences that have a tougher schedule but usually only build up their wins against the lesser teams in the conference.

Murray state has won a game in their last two ncaa appearances.

Belmonts best showing ever was a one point loss to Duke in a first round game one year. Every other game they were easily disposed.

I think Murray state won't get a bid now BC their RpI is in the 60s....

If illinois state wins today then Wichita and northern Iowa will still be at large teams. If Illinois state loses they will not get an at large because they have an RpI in the 60s

Also, two locals have huge games today - Hofstra and Iona playing for a chance to go to their respective conference tourney finals. Would love to see them win and as many locals as possible get into the NCAAs.

CBS sports NCAA Tournament Bracketology has the following seeds:

Nova 1
Gtwown 4
Prov 5
Butler 5
SJU 6
X 9

not bad for a non-football conference

and Pitt, UConn and Syracuse nowhere to be found. ;)

IMO a six seed would be cause for celebration. After the Duke game, it was commonly felt our main weakness was lack of bench and Lavin went ahead and played even less reserves and the starters played increased minutes and the team played their best basketball.
The main weakness is controlling big men who can play offense. Our backcourt can score enough to beat Geo. Xav., Prov. and teams without big men who are real scoring theaths. Teams with even one scoring big like St. Mary's hurt us and Duke and Gonzaga with two are impossible. Wisc would be aa terrible matchup. Our reserve big men cannot be expected to do the job. A six seed might delay meeting this type of team.

I would be happy w a sixth seed. If we get past the first round , keeps us away from a 1 or 2 seed round 2. About as good as we can hope for unless we beat Nova.

So the question is what do we need for a 6 or 7 seed? Obviously we all want to avoid the 8/9 seeds.

Bracket Matrix currently has us 7.35.

IMO if we beat Providence then lose to Nova we'll be a 6 or 7 seed. Lose to Providence and we'll be a 8 or 9 seed.

Yeah that sounds right to me

I'm watching Illinois St. blow out #11 Northern Iowa in the Missouri Valley Championship game. This is the #11 team in the country??? I've seen this team play a few times this year, no way are they the 11th best team in the country. Woiuld love for us to play them in a second round game.
