2015 Bracketology

In general, I'd rather be a 10, then an 8 or a 9. That's especially true this year, with the "Kentucky factor" thrown into play. There's just too much of a risk of us drawing them, that I would rather get knocked down a line or two (in fact, I've said before that the last two byes should be the 8 and 9 seeds in Kentucky's region, even if teams ranked higher on the so-called "S-curve" get bumped down a seed line, but that's not going to happen). Wisconsin (who we would be matched up with here) will still be tough, as will Villanova (who we won't be matched up with), but none of the other 2 seeds scare me. Of course, this could all change.

Does anyone know what our RPI was heading into selection Sunday last year? I can't find it. But it must have considerably lower than today, given that we finished 10-8 in conf play.

Yes it is, I actually think that and the Illinois vs Iowa matchup have the potential to be knockout games.

There are also a bunch of games that don't really help bubble teams, but could be critical if they lose.

That Ole Miss vs. Georgia game is pretty good too

The bubble is starting to take a little shape but one thing remains constant. Our magic # is 2 and it doesn't matter how we get it. If we win Saturday all the guys have to do is avoid going 0-3 to finish

Frustrating to look at Lunardi's latest bracket update this morning.

Xavier somehow moved up and we actually dropped a spot. That Georgia win over Ole Miss was big since they passed us.

How does he have Xavier as a 7 and us as a 10?

The one good thing is it seems like the bubble is thinning out, it's going to be challenging for a bunch of the teams who are left on it to catch us.

For tonight:

Houston at Temple (19-9), 7 p.m., CBS Sports Network

Rutgers at Purdue (18-9), 9 p.m., ESPNU

BYU (21-8) at Portland, 10 p.m., ROOT Sports

Oregon State at Stanford (17-9), 11 p.m., Pac-12 Network

Let's compare our resume with xaviers for a second here. All stats from espn

Xavier RPI: 31
SJU RPI: 32

Xavier SOS: 24
SJU SOS: 37

Xavier opponent SOS: 13
SJU opponent SOS: 7

Xavier VS top 50: 4-5
SJU VS top 50: 4-6

Xavier Losses against RPI 51+ - 6
SJU losses against RPI 51+ - 3

That losses against 51+ is where we separate ourselves from Xavier IMO. All 3 of our "bad" losses (SHU, DePaul, Creighton) are teams Xavier has also lost to. On top of that Xavier has lost to long beach state (a team we beat by double digits), UTEP, and Auburn.

And on top of that we are 2-0 against Xavier.

So I don't know how exactly Xavier is a 7 seed and us a 10 in Lunardi's bracket.
