2015 Bracketology

Frustrating to look at Lunardi's latest bracket update this morning.

Xavier somehow moved up and we actually dropped a spot. That Georgia win over Ole Miss was big since they passed us.

How does he have Xavier as a 7 and us as a 10?

The one good thing is it seems like the bubble is thinning out, it's going to be challenging for a bunch of the teams who are left on it to catch us.

For tonight:

Houston at Temple (19-9), 7 p.m., CBS Sports Network

Rutgers at Purdue (18-9), 9 p.m., ESPNU

BYU (21-8) at Portland, 10 p.m., ROOT Sports

Oregon State at Stanford (17-9), 11 p.m., Pac-12 Network

Doesn't make any sense. 5-1 in our last six, yet trending downward

Dayton won last night, and is now one of the "last four byes." If I'm them, I'm tempted to move down to "last four in," then they can host a first four game. If you win that (and I believe they would), they would then be at an advantage in the Round of 64 game. After that, who knows? So,there best chance at a long run might be having to play an extra game. I normally don't endorse this, but this is an exception.

@rumbleSBN: Lavin on Big Dance for the Big East: "This is a year we have the depth and quality where there will be multiple teams in the 2nd weekend."

Two problems with that, first you never want to purposely lose or play at less than your best (see Colts-Jets when going for perfect season). Secondly, even if they could somehow try to be the last four in, it doesn't mean that they wouldn't be left out altogether.

Huh?

It is very simple, Lavin only stated that there are a few Big East teams that have the talent and ability to make a run to the Sweet 16. A lot depends on the seedings. I really don't know what is confusing about his statement.

Sorry my brain overlooked the BE reference.

@AdamZagoria: "Villanova, they're up there for being a Final Four caliber team." Xavier's Chris Mack.
Also says St. John's could make a run.

Oh, in the end, I wouldn't do it, but it would be tempting if I were Dayton, which I'm not.

Georgetown is similar in ability to whoever will be our likely first round opponent. Lets start the run there.

I for some reason initially also missed the Big East part. Guess I saw Lavin's name then jumped straight to the quote.

Gotta say OldSchool...really appreciate these posts.

Though I've always had a soft spot for Temple from the Cheney days...and wouldn't mind them in the dance, just not at the expense of our squad of course. :)

Minnesota has a better chance of making the dance than Michigan St. has of not making it. No way Sparty stays home or SJU jumps them for seeding purposes unless we win BET.

Here's the thing about Joey Brackets. He's not always great at picking seeds, which is why his only KPI that is publicly discussed is how many of the 68 he had. In reality that means he correctly picked the last four in. Don't get worked up about his seedings, as much as you shouldn't get worked up about his matchups and locations.

It's about improving our RPI if Minnesota wins.

I think about half a dozen of our former rivals play today. Jerry Palm reader lists them each day.

Minnesota is terrible. They are one of the worst- if not THE WORST- team at closing out games. They are actually much better than their RPI (other stats like BPI are better), but end of the day they can't win.
