2014-2015 Prediction Thread

Just a random note, we play Long Beach State at home this year. I don't know what kind of team they have, but they easily have the hardest schedule in basketball

Check this out:

11/14/14 at BYU
11/18/14 at Xavier
11/21/14 vs. Kansas State
11/23/14 at UCLA
11/27/14 vs. Western Michigan
11/28/14 Washington/San Jose State
12/03/14 vs. Nevada
12/05/14 at Stephen F. Austin
12/10/14 at San Diego State
12/20/14 at Texas
12/22/14 at St. John's
12/28/14 at Syracuse
12/30/14 at Louisville

Again, I don't know what kind of team they have, but if they beat at least 3-4 of these good teams, that could end up being a solid win for us. Just a thought.

They played a similar schedule last year and lost to pretty much all the top teams easily. They beat USC by 1. They finished third in the Big West which is a low mid major conference that sent Cal Poly to the NCAA with a losing record. Cal Poly did advance out of the 16 seed play in game with Texas Southern and then got crushed by Wichita State. The Beach seems to have a decent recruiting class and added Maryland transfer Nick Faust. Still think this would mean less than beating Fordham.

I may be the only one, but I didn't expect the world from Thomas anyway. His strength was rebounding and defense and actually we were a middle of the road rebounding team and an above average team defensively. By every metric though we didn't score efficiently enough. I thought with Thomas we were taking a clear step back from Sampson/Sanchez.

I actually think Pointer and an eventually healthy Jones can cover for Thomas just fine. This will hurt our depth obviously, so injuries and or foul trouble to Obekpa would be catastrophic. But if he can stay healthy we're no worse than we were a week ago.

Bubble team again IMO, and we just gotta hope our back court gets hot during the big east tournament. I'm still very excited for the season to start!

Thomas would have been a factor. He was relentless on the boards...albiet at the Junior College Level. With him, we could have made a run in the NCAA tournament. Without him, we'll get in...but be out that first weeknd.

At least I can bask in the Giants winning it all again.

Sanchez wasn't anything close to what people were expecting (although he was solid) and I think the expectations around Thomas were likewise out of whack. Not to say he wouldn't contribute, but I was expecting something along the lines of Gods Gift.

I'm looking forward to seeing Adonis and Amar play tomorrow.

I hope this is your worst case scenario Hit! !! I see 5 less losses and two wins in the Big East tourney and a bubble team but all that is WAY down the road. If he cannot sign a ranked player and a few quality recruits by the end of next month I doubt he gets an extension or that he signs anyone of note by April. All because he and his staff took a year off from recruiting. If on the other hand he signs just two of his top targets before Spring he will get extended since in this smaller Big East it should be easy for this experienced team to win 21 or 22 games. If they upset Syracuse and Villanova and split with some conference teams it would be a very good year for us.

A little pessimistic.

Syracuse and Duke almost definitely losses
Pre Season NIT 1-1
Beat St. Mary's and Tulane and rest of Non Conference schedule(1 loss of course possible)
Lose three out of four to Nova and Georgetown
Lose once to PC, Xavier, Marquette and Seton Hall

That would be 11-7 Big East and 21-9 overall not counting the Division 2 game. Win first round Big East. On bubble. No idea if we get in.

The loss of Thomas is too debilitating because our front court was already thin to begin with. I have sen DeLaRosa and i know he isnt ready for the big time. Teams that have any semblance of a front court will eat us alive down low. Can the coach make the proper in game djustments?...i think thats something that still has to be proven to us. Can we play consistently?....thats another great question.

As for us beating all of the cupcakes, i just thinki parity is at an all time high in college bball and we will get caught sleeping.

I hope i am wrong but if we have another mediocre year and these top recruits dont commit here we will be looking at a last place program in the BE for the foreseeable future.

I think some of you guys are underestimating just how good our guard play will be in a game that is dominated by guard play. Jordan, Harrison, Greene and Branch are probably the best group of guards in the Big East and by the end of the year I believe top 10 in the country as a group. The problem is up front but we've already had posts showing a UConn team that won the National Championship and a Villanova team that made the Final Four that was small and played only eight guys. Right now the player who we need to be a surprise is Albigovic CO will be very good and I think Christian Jones will play well. we need that third guy up front in the rotation to play really well. It's still a thin team but history has shown that they can still be successful with a line up such as this. Our coaching is weaker than those other two teams had but hopefully Whitesell helps in that area.

With all this information I"ll just tune in in late March.

It shouldn't be called a prediction thread, it should be called "Unleash Anger about Keith Thomas by pissing away the season in October thread"

Most of these guys are just completely overreacting.

Or being overly optimistic. It will take a super coaching job to get this team to the Dance. One injury up front & we are in trouble. I don't think Thomas is Dennis Rodman, but I do think we needed another physical player up front against big oriented squads like GT, Xavier, etc. No panic, still rooting, but concerned.
