2014-2015 Prediction Thread

I pray that Gonzaga is top 10 when/if we get a shot at them.

Need to beat Minnesota first. A lot harder than Penn State who we lost to last year.

I said if. And that's also not necessarily true. Georgia is a good team.

Never said Georgia couldn't beat Gonzaga either.

You said we needed to beat MINNY to play Gonzaga. Which implies that Georgia would lose to Gonzaga. But who cares it doesn't matter

Agreed

Doesn't matter what was said but it does matter if STJ plays Gonzaga in the finals or not. If both lost then the impact of beating Gonzaga in the consolation game would be substantially less. If the Zags had already lost to Georgia and then also lost to STJ not only wouldn't they be a top 10 team but their drop in the rankings would likely be precipitous and a win over them have less impact on STJ's national perceptions, especially given that STJ would have lost to Minny. In the end STJ has to win the NIT to gain any major momentum early in the season no matter who they play if they reach the finals. Obviously Zags would be much more impactful, and provide a feeling of revenge for many long suffering fans at the same time.

18 - 13
Usual under achieving by players and coach staff.
Turmoil of some kind will surely surface again. late for meeting, missed practice, academic violation, court outbursts, etc.
highly regarded recruits prove to be Ok at best .(if over the top they would be at Syracuse, Louisville, G'town, UCONN, etc)
Usual end of season push will be needed for NCAA's due to the usual inexplicable losses out of conference.
NIT.....again. Disappointment within program = 1st round exit.
Last 10 years of optimism followed by unacceptable results for program says so.
Would however be fun to be significant again even for 1 year.

That would be awesome. People have been talking this Gonzaga team up big time since April. If they get by Georgia and we beat Minnesota. That could very likely put us a win from a top 25 ranking.

Zags don't travel well and we'd almost certainly have a huge home court advantage--not just our fans, but plenty of local fans of other teams that come by to catch the NIT championship game with a top ten team.

I have a feeling the hype machine can take hold of this team if they win early...seniors, Rysheed Jordan, best shot-blocker in the country, athletes everywhere, NYC, Lavin coming back from cancer, Harrison coming back from suspension stronger than ever.....
What are the names of the two people who are local fans of other teams that will come by to catch the NIT championship game?

I guess time will tell if you are right, but as of this moment I think you are nuts if you don't think local fans would turn out to watch Gonzaga.
At those ticket prices and being sandwiched around the Thanksgiving Holiday attendance usually lags absence the presence of a Duke or Kentucky. Gonzaga lacks name value. My estimation is crowds of 6 to 8 thousand tops.Remember these are not part of our season ticket package.

A big concern of mine is that even in Lavin's sole successful season here, the team got out of the gates slow. That first year was understandable since he shifted the playing rotation until the team finally clicked with Hardy at point. I just don't see this team bolting out of the gates, and I see this tournament as a more likely bet to saddle us with two losses than two wins.

Hey Marillac & Jack because you have nothing to do all day and post constantly doesnt give you the right to be an imbecile. My post is called an opinion or prediction if you dont like it be an adult and move on or dont allow the original post asking for predictions to begin with. I choose not to drink the Kool Aid and if that upsets you cry in your pablum and move on. But seriuosly if you would like to P - - - in my Cheerios I would love to give you an opportunity.

Calm down it was just a joke. I thought my winky face emoticon thingy ;) established that. As for me having nothing to do all day, I go to a high school where instead of physical books we use iPads in the classroom. So when there's nothing to do I come on here during the day.

Again, I was just joking, RELAX, as Aaron Rodgers says.

I see the whole "Boys" club is begininng to chime in looks like I struck a nerve  Next. Hey Dink great selfie you provided.

And the season hasn't even started yet. Sheez!

I know right? Imagine a fall commitment from Briscoe to UK and an early loss to a niagara or something. Imagine this board then :(

Incredibly critical point, Beast. Last year a big debate here was "the sky is falling" vs. "patience" in Nov.-Jan. It was really about neither - the sky was definitely not falling, and even though patience is important (and we did end up getting ourselves back in position in March) it doesn't mean that you shouldn't control the things you can from the get-go.

And that last point is what it's all about this year. Every game in a college season is precious. Seasons can swing on 1 or 2 games. Last year it felt like we were approaching November, December, and even January like we had 162 games to define who the team was. That's horse manure. Especially when you have a veteran team and a Euro Trip to prepare. The lack of defined anything when the season started - which continued for nearly 3 months - was inexcusable and that more than anything cost us the NCAA 2 or 3 times over. I'm over assigning blame for that, I just don't want a repeat.

We need to come out and win our first three games by 90 points. Play and beat Minnesota like we are confidently a better team than they are. Go from there. No reason for this team not to be a solid, uncontroversial 10-2 or better heading into Big East play. That's where a serious team would be against this schedule.

Unfortunately both here and at UCLA Lavin has started slow almost every season. But at UCLA his teams came along very strongly in the end, not so much at STJ yet.

I definitely think there is a sense of urgency with the players right now. Jordan is trying to go pro, Harrison and Greene know it's their last chance to do big things here, so I think maybe that could lead to a good early start. It's unpredictable, but we will see.

Agree

I agree that getting off to a hot start is important, but I think it's more important that we start to believe we can win big games. We've been pulling in 20 win seasons, but we need to grab those marquee wins when they're available. I didn't expect us to sweep Wisconsin Cuse and Nova 2x last season but we've got to come out of those types of games with at least a noteworthy win or two. Creighton at home was the only impressive win on the schedule, and we again lost our first game in the BE tournament.

So yes, let's start the season well; but just as importantly the team needs to start rising to the occasion for the big games. Hopefully the additional experience the seniors have can be a difference maker in that regard.

32-8, and we win the national championship.

There, now all the other posters who have good feelings about the upcoming season don't have to be afraid to post their thoughts.
