2014-2015 Prediction Thread

Just finished watching the replay of the Humboldt game. Good news is that it's not more of the same from last season. The bad news is that it's some of the same and, unfortunately, less of the same. Less athleticism, less size, less shooting (not that Max and Marc helped very much). No chance to the NCAA, some chance for the NIT. A sub 500 season is not out of the question. A mutiny is always possible.

See These are the posts that make me want to rip my hair out. Was the exhibition a bad sign for the upcoming season? No doubt in my mind! I know it was bad, we looked bad its discouraging. But "no chance at the NCAAs" is just frustrating to read.

We have a good group of veterans that I think weren't fully into it Saturday, and I believe with them we can compete for a tournament bid. I'm not saying I'm expecting one, I'm saying that the season isn't over yet we have a chance.

I hear what you're saying Jack, but if we have any shot at all of making the NCAA tourney, and I believe that we do, these veterans need to be fully in to it from the get go. And that means going 110% in every single practice and game, regardless of the importance of the game or the level of the competition.

I agree with the Rothstein quote.
Way too much doom and gloom from people here.
Here is what I know -
We have a top flight: PG, SG and Center
Typically that is the making of a successful team.
The key will be the "role players" that complement Jordan, Harrison and Chris.
If Dom, Jamal, Phil and Christian are solid -- we can go places.
Way too early for me to jump ship b/c a Juco transfer didnt qualify.

And I agree with that, and I'm disappointed they came out not into it, but I think their effort is going to change Sat and hopefully continue at a high level for the rest of the season cause you are right the year depends on it. This team has had the Preseason NIT and Cuse game circled on their calendar since the schedule came out, and they need to re focus and take care of all the games that come before it with efficiency

Jordan is potentially top flight, but not at PG. He needs to play off the ball. Branch with all his foibles, is one of the keys to success, playing the point Imo.

less talent than last year with the departure of Sampson, Sanchez & Gods Gift for a team that didnt go to the NCAAs. the writing is pretty much on the wall and very clear if you ask me.

It's not doom and gloom to think Thomas' loss of rebounding will hurt us...it's a reality check. Humboldt would have outrebounded us if not for the controversial Obekpa rebound at the end. This doesn't mean no NCAA. It means no deep run if we get in.

The bigger problem is the team of upper classmen pick and choose when they're "into it". It was a cancer last year and now we see we have no reason to believe it'll change. That's the discouraging part.

Not gonna happen. Lavin has made it clear that Jordan is the "quarterback" of the team. He will be running point whether he should or not.

As has been said, Thomas may not be Dennis Rodman, but would have helped in an area we fall short in, rebounding. That said, I find myself pissed more over the fact that the drama & constant jolts to the program preclude ever getting to a sustainable level of continuity & success. There is just too much volatility. I know many programs have issues, but we have more than our fair share. Putting my soap box away & ready to support D'Lo and upperclassmen go out successfully.

Ok. Yea you are right, it's impossible.

I agree but, well, the PG, SG and Center have to play top flight as well, not just play the part on paper. I don't doubt that Dlo will give his all and hopefully he's a little more consistent, I didn't watch the exhibition but am optimistic the CO can become a better rounded big time big man, and I worry if Rysheed can provide the necessary PG leadership required to allow the role players to play to their ceilings. But, hey, let's roll 'em out and see what happens. I'm ready for some basketball.

While not a lot of stock should be put into the performance of a team in their first exhibition game, we have all of the past year and beyond to go on. The team loses 2 players, one that got invited to camp and the other on a NBA roster. Nothing at all that matters was added. Thomas was supposed to matter, and right away that's ripped away from us. So we are relying on major improvement and far better teamwork and work ethic to do what we couldn't do wiith a more athletic, more talented, deeper and bigger roster. Harrison and Greene are what they are. The improvement will have to come from Jordan and Obekpa. While Chris looked like a different player, especially energy and attitude wise, let's not forget that many of us thought that Gift was NBA material when he played weak opposition. We know how that worked out. Then again, I never thought Sampson would make the NBA, and here I was enjoying him getting run for the 76ers last night, and playing hard and looking like he belonged.

Thats always been my favorite line up but am no where ready to say Jordan cant be a very good point guard. Its more my love for branch then my dislike for Rysheed at the 1.

I think the two main questions affecting the team's success are;
1) can Jordan's and CO's offensive improvement make up for Sampson's departure? CO looked so much better Sat but for the same reason you can't throw out the team's chances of having a good year based on this game you can't assume he has improved this much but it sure was a good sign
2) Jones has to earn 20 to 25 minutes of playing time. To play Jordan,Harrison, Pointer and either Greene or Branch at the same time will be too much of a height disadvantage vs top fifty teams.
