@#19 Connecticut, Fri., Feb. 7, 8p, FOX

7 years ago this week they beat #4 Duke and #1 Nova. This com8ng off an 11 game losing streak. That was insane
Technically that was not in the “same week” , since the week starts on Monday.

In a week?

I thought about this in the morning after reading my Facebook memories.
LMF will have to clarify his question? Not sure if he was asking when was the last time we won consecutive games against ranked teams. 😀

I understand the optimism. Our defense is special. We have a chance to achieve things many of us haven't been able to witness from this program in our lifetime. But the last 9 national champions all had an offense in the top 10 in adjusted efficiency. Ours is currently 80th.
Analytics be damned, games are played, won and lost, on the court, not on a computer. Jack Williams is 100% correct, this team has a chance, no question. Unless “adjusted efficiency” has figured out a way to accurately measure, heart, will to win, and just good old fashioned BIG BALLS, I’ll go with the eye test.
Doesn’t mean they are favorites, means they have a chance.
And one other immeasurable factor, I have ripped both players here and don’t take a word back, but on the other side of that evaluation coin, very few teams have two guys with the ability and flat out fearlessness to perform at the end of close, intense games like Richmond and Luis.
Oh, no prediction, certainly no guarantee, but this team has a chance, a very real one.

While giddy about the significance of this win (along with Marquette), I would caution against being dismissive about either.

These wins are huge because the guarantee no worse than a season split against two of the top teams in the Big East. Both UCONN (MSG) and Marquette (in Milwaukee) are more than capable of beating us in those venues hence the gigantic value of these wins.

Now Rick's task is to keep these kids focused on beating Villanova away on Tuesday, also no easy task.

As fans though, considering our chances for first place, must complete the 3rd leg of what is critical vs top conference teams by evening the season series vs a white hot Creighton next Sunday.

This team, despite playing now with a shortened bench, has several thorny prongs that opponents must contend with.

Over the past month alone, consensus opinion on here has shifted as to who our best and most valuable player is - Zuby, Deivon, Kadary, and RJ each have held that imaginary title.

The title matters little, but what is clearly evident is that on any given night any of those four can be the best player on the court and that creates real problems for opponents.

We can't entirely remove Scott and Wilcher from that equation either.

After I watched us play North Texas in Charleston last season, I thought that had we played them another 10 teams, their relentless defensive effort would produce a low scoring close contest each game. It's no coincidence that by signing Scott, their best player, we are now among the elite defensive teams in the country. Plus, while streaky, Scott can be a dangerous 3 point shooter, which in itself is a laughable statement considering our current shooting woes.

Wilcher to me is a young colt on a team of thoroughbreads. On most nights he may turn in an even performance of a few great plays along with some serious mishaps. It's Ricks job to go back to the lab with him (ode to Looie) continually and refine Wilcher ore into pure gold. Just stay tuned. He will get better and better but for now is an important piece of the puzzle here.

Like most (Johnnies red) hot 🔥 teams, this can cool off quickly especially because in basketball you csn run into a team that is in a zone shooting and can't miss no matter what you do.

But in 40 years, this has been one of the top 3 runs we've had. This a been a season of expecting a great 6 course Italian meal but being rewarded with a Michelin 2 star experience.

Savor it while it's here. The entree is being served now, and dessert may be the best thing yet.

I love this team. A bunch of junkyard dogs. But, I recognize that the 3 is a big part of the game. Average 3pt % is about 35%. In the last 10 years only 6 teams shooting under 35% made the final four. 6 out of 40. They shot between 32-35%. We are at 29%. If we can find a way to get to average, I think our ceiling rises even more.
