19-20 Schedule

Cancelling that game would make sense.

No reason to take team 3,500 miles for 1 neutral site game without any staff connection to Warriors any longer four days before Christmas.

I believe we are playing Arizona in San Francisco.

Proposed Dec. 21, 2019 Arizona game at Golden State’s new arena may be off the table for obvious reasons.
I hope so. That was always a bad game for us, especially now. What will essentially be an away game counting as a neutral game.

I understand why it was done, but now that we have a new coach I hope we can get it dropped. Usually "neutral" games like that benefit the team in the superior conference, such as when we played VCU in Brooklyn or St. Joe's in Connecticut (both neutral games which had a lot more SJU fans due to location).

This stuff matters. Had that VCU game been a home game at MSG rather than a neutral game at Barclays, we likely would not have made the Tournament (wouldn't have counted as Q1).

No hard feelings, just hope they beat the blanking blank out of ASU.

Anybody think that's a coincidence?B)
Though it does kinda make sense given the 4 teams, I’m sure they weren’t upset with how it turned out.
Exactly.

The teams usually commit to these things 2 years out (with a few exceptions), and TV usually determines the matchups based on unofficial seeding.

So, the probably went:

Virginia
Arizona St.
St. John's
UMASS

There had been rumblings (from Rothstein and others) that ASU was the opponent even before the Mullin/Hurley craziness happened. Actually, it was even before the First Four matchup was announced.
So Arizona and Arizona State. Not scheduling cupcakes for CMA
I don’t blame Mullin for last year’s schedule. Games are scheduled sometimes years in advance and some things are out of their control. For example the Rutgers game was not SJU. That was the Big East/B10 and they had no choice. In retrospect SJU should have been given a better opponent. I think overall schedule was an anomaly I also think it turned out to be OK. At the same time without blaming anyone it is also fair to say the 12-0 start was a bit of a fraud.

SJU should be playing an elite schedule EVERY year or at least try. I don’t care what the projection is for the team based on the previous year.

Remember Mullin’s first team was projected to be terrible and they were. But they also were already entered into the Maui Classic arguably one of the best pre-season tourney’s in the country year in and year out. They didn’t suddenly try to bail out of that.

To summarize the announced games for 2019/20 so far:

Hall of Fame Classic:
- 2 preliminary games at CA vs Vermont and one of Central Connecticut, Rider and Columbia
- Arizona St (Hurley match up) and either UVA or UMass at Mohegan Sun

Gavitt Games:
St Johns is one of 3 teams to play in this every year (also Creighton and Depaul) so you would think 2 of them would be out but rumors are Creighton and Xavier are out this year. Also STJ rumored to be playing Minnesota but playing Nebraska again instead might be a good story line. ;)

BE/B12 Challenge:
West Virginia at MSG

Vs Arizona at Chase Center in SFO 12/19

Very strong schedule so far
Vermont may be the weakest opponent listed and they are pretty darn good every year
Looking forward to it!!

The Arizona Wildcats will cap their 2019-20 nonconference season by facing St. John’s at San Francisco’s new Chase Center on Dec. 21.

The game has not yet been officially announced by the Basketball Hall of Fame, which is organizing the event, but a copy of the game contract was obtained by the Star in response to a public-records request.

Arizona will receive $100,000 plus 250 premium-section tickets for playing the game at what will be the Golden State Warriors’ new home starting next season. It was also expected to be a homecoming of sorts for former Warriors star Chris Mullin, but Mullin resigned from St. John’s last month.

Paultz you hearing anything regarding Duke? I know several months ago things weren't looking too good.

Unless I missed it, the series has not been renewed. Hopefully that changes in future.

You would think that we have the connections to make that happen
