#11 Marquette (MSG), Tue., Feb. 4, 6:30p, FS-1

Is this some kind of Peruvian curse word that you've picked up on your trip? ;)
It’s loud in the restaurant this is why I try to use text only instead of talking into the phone. But I have had 1 pisco sour so far

Zuby, Luis and Kadary are givens. They are our leaders and must have a good game. I don see Ayo making a cameo at the first media timeout. Scott and Sim must step up. Scott only had one rebound against Prov, Sim Ned’s to hit some threes.

I don’t think Vince can play in this game. Our switching D leaves him guarding smaller guys, Prey will take his time. Smith is the unknown.

Tuesday we will find out.

His best attribute is his relentless positivity - even about his opponents.
Well he’s actually pretty clever. Only a fool….( See Kim English) would not say positive things about a team who could potentially beat you. It softens the loss if a coach is overly complimentary about his opponent or makes the win that much better if his team can defeat them.

Great post. There still is a hint of disbelief among many St. John's fans especially those that closely follow the team and have had a long period of lean years. Even the Mets went to the World Series in 2015 and the Jets to the AFC Championship in 2010. The article below is about our last NCAA tournament win on 3/16/20. 25 years ago. It still feels a little like fear. The fear that they will let us down again. I sensed it at the end of the Providence game. The win was a great relief. Lets go out and have a great week and continue to reduce that fear.

Part of it is just the fact that we have played just 1 of the 6 games against Marq/Creighton/Yukon. Those are coming up. That’s just the way the schedule set-up. Also, doesn’t help that we dropped the 1 point decision vs Creighton. We are 0-1 vs teams in our Conference most likely fighting for a Tournament birth. So, I think in the back of peoples minds is we need to beat those teams before they jump all in. God forbid we lose a tough game Tuesday the same old same old will be a talking point. Not fair but amongst the talking heads it will be there.

Personally, I believe in the team and the Coach. Now is the time to prove it. We need the “A” game mentality to make the statement that we mean business. Nothing wrong with saying it’s big game time. If not what are we even doing here. We want to be in these positions now and in the future.

The 2 seed has to fly across country to play 15 seed Northern Arizona in Tuscon. Meanwhile, 2 seed Puke is probably playing Montana in Raleigh or Wilmington. Typical St. Johns.
It was worse than that. Gonzaga was underseeded in the beginning of their run every year and these games were in Tucson on the campus of Arizona. Arizona was the one seed in the West that year. Who do you think the crowds would be rooting for? Hint, not us.

Lawman writing his press releases helps too 😀

Joking aside I do think he’s a phenomenal coach. I just think it’s yoda vs young Jedi and Yoda wins
The "let's troll LMF" train rolls on. I will continue to bite my tongue until after the game on Tuesday. Let's see if Shaka is capable of making any adjustments or if the pom-pom approach to coaching works for him against an actual coach.

History says that won't go well for Shaka but we shall see.

Pod system was still a couple of years away.

We would be playing those games much closer to home, now.

This will be the most challenging home game of the year and if we have long scoring lapses like we had against Providence, all the defense in world won't put enough points up on our side of the board.
Scott has become a black hole on the offense and Sim is unpredictable. Smith will have to be twice as effective as he was against the Friars and Prey may be the needed glue guy.
Marquette will be super motivated after being embarrassed at home by Uconn and if our three go-to stars are not on top of their game, this could be one of two consecutive losses.
As Pitino said, just do your job, pay attention to the game plan and we will win.

Yes will be challenging both offensive and defensive. Their half court offense is superb, particularly their pick and rolls. They also move the ball well, all players always moving. If our defense gets exploited then we cannot afford a poor offense game.
