“Looie” Statue

Mully congratulated Looie via video, and I bet for certain Looie was not put off one iota at Chris Mullin not being there in person.

So if Looie isn't offended we shouldn't be for him.

I believe (but am not 100% certain), that I saw Chris at the Garden for a gathering of his '84/'85 team in the rotunda mezannine. He was signing autographs and engaged as was his teammates.

He must have come back for the Garden putting his jersey up in the rafters. Again, also when Looie's victories jersey went up there.

Missing a big event like this can be complicated by many things. Over the years I've missed things for family reasons that I could not share with others at the time. Let's cut him some slack.

His coaching tenure was disappointing but had a few good moments here and there.

I personally think his losing his brother to a long drawn out horrific illness deeply affected him.

Ahhhhh haahhhhhh.... too.... much.... empathy.

This board is going to melt.

Maybe Chris also thought it was a recruit visit and decided not to show up like he did when he was coach

Or, maybe he was sitting on a table, and after tying his shoelaces, he had a lobster roll and an IPA./media/kunena/emoticons/cool.png

great point BJR hey from game maybe 5 I saw fraud. But that being said it is what it is I never question his love for Looie. Ideally I'd like to see him stay involved with the program especially for what we paid him and what he said he would do which was a a lie after season one or 2 but it is what it is

Flip-flops don't have shoelaces.

I was in Queens and had some time to do a quick run over to the campus to see the statue and pick up my cardboard cutout from last season.  The statue was well done and has an interactive video screen to go with it and pictures going through his career.  Unfortunately didn't get a chance to view the whole thing.  Ran into Mike Cragg on his way to lunch and had a quick chat with spoke to him for awhile.  Really great to be back on campus for the first time since the last game there before the pandemic.  It gave  me a great feeling but I really wish I had more time to take it all in.

I then picked up the cardboard cut out and had forgotten that Coach Anderson had signed them.

SJU85.....impressions of Mike Cragg?

From my distant seat, he seems really engaged and engaging.

Yes he is engaging and I believe fully engaged.  As he was on his way to lunch and I also had limited time, but it was a quick chat (he did wonder if St. John's was on my High School senior's list) about the upcoming season and the statue with what I stated I hoped to be more to come.  He also spoke highly of Father Stanley.

Prior to the pandemic I have spoken to him more in-depth (some times with others around who also had questions and wanted to meet him) and he has ideas of what it will do.  I truly feel he doesn't just have the ideas, put the knowledge of what it will take and plans on how to get there.

He also helped direct a student while I was there to where she could go for a flu shot on campus as it wasn't where she thought it was.
