Hearing one could be in the works, hopefully true and soon so he and his family can enjoy it. Great man!

Looie is the best!!
He was, is and always will be the "face" of St John's basketball

Well 2nd best anyway I would say Joe Lapchick was the best.  Would love the statue to have them both arm in arm

There is one already made sitting in storage. I met the sculptor at Mohegan sun when we played South Carolina. He told me it was ready, just waiting for SJU to pay.

Or Joe passing a baton to Louie
or the Big Indian clearing his throat as Louie listens intently. (Lou's statement that he learned more about basketball when the Big Indian cleared his throat than...)

Then what the hell is the school waiting for? The man is 96!

So he made it first, and then expected the school to pay for something they didn't ask for?

Ya think maybe the administration could reach out to alums? Most people have no idea the statue exists.

The statue was completed a couple of years ago. We will all be very happy when all of the plans are announced and there is still a big need to provide financial support.

The statue was completed a couple of years ago.  Would rather not reveal the reasons but suffice to say new leadership moved swiftly both with the statue, placement if it, and acceding to one of louie's conditions that speak to coach c's character.    You will all be thrilled when all of the plans are announced and there is still a big need to provide financial support.

I do recall others previously posting Coach C. only would want it, if Coach Kaiser also had a spot. Hopefully it's that and I can only imagine age/health of both plays into the equation too.

Our two legends at a SJU baseball game tonight, they broke the mold on these two

This might be the statute that will be going in the lobby of Carnesecca after some expected renovations.

The “Legend”, always a smile

Cragg: “You know it is a great day when you get to spend a few hours with Coach Carnesecca and Coach Anderson!”

I'm actually in this business. I offered to do one for the school at a reduced rate. Less than what they are going to pay for the one done on spec. I went to the school and operate a business here in Queens that makes statuary. I was told to make a "significant" donation to the school to get my foot in the door. I guess having alumni make something for the school at a reduced rate, made in Queens not China on spec, wasn't enough to get me through the door. Can't say I'm surprised. Typical St. John's.

Paltz, Bill McGorry says hi.

You've posted that before on here.   I'm not sure who you dealt with, but something about your version doesn't add up.   From the moment I made small donations to Red White, I was treated with respect and friendship.   I was never asked to make a donation of any size, and honestly don't know anyone who has been asked the same.   I also didn't ask for anything in return.  I am pretty sure that the artist who was commissioned to do the Lapchick statue, went ahead and made a Lou Carnesecca statue at his own risk and then offered it to the school.  The school did not commit to purchasing it for years, and I believe you jumped in after the statue was completed..   I suspect had you done the same as the Lapchick sculptor, who clearly had an inside track after completing one project successfully, perhaps you would have had a better chance.

In terms of "typical" St. John's, for the past few years, nothing has been typical.   We've hired a great AD, who hired a great coach, and hired a great president.   There is a new $80 million health sciences building breaking ground soon.  Things are looking great and upwards at the university.

Not bashing you, but I think you have to clarify in your own mind if you are upset because you weren't able to give something to the school or if it's because you couldn't sell something to the school.   There's a big difference.

Perhaps you could work on a Chris Mullin statue or another great notable athlete or coach and donate it to the school.    I doubt that the athletic department would not be appreciative of the offer, even if they didn't accept..

That funny. You were the one who suggested that I should be an "active alum" and reach out to Goff. I couldn't care less what the school does with the statue. I was offering to give back via a substantial reduction in cost since I know what the school was planning on paying. I'm incredulous that the school or those involved wouldn't even return a call or email from a Queens based alumni that was actually in this business. Even if its just for advice. Just so you know, there are works on the campus, St. Vincent and St. John, that I actually produced. I'm wasn't fishing for business. I was looking to help the school out.

You mentioned Anton Goff as you aware hes long gone. But when he was here during the Mullin coaching era he was a powerless cheerleader. A really bad hire for the University. I wonder if Mr. Oliva the schools attorney ran interference on your endeavors as well?
