Mike Anderson - Former Coach

The end of CMA's second year was suspect.
Everything seemed to be going great and then the bottom fell out of the program. Moore did his little mutiny. Then Dunn left. Followed by Moore, Earlington, Williams and more.
Then the DeMeo dismissal and lawsuit.
It was the turning point for CMA's tenure here. But all the turmoil also didn't preclude Cragg from dishing out the extension.

As for this year, the tweets of loyalty by Joel and AJ show CMA garnered respect and love from at least some players.
Not to mention the firing WITHOUT CAUSE of his strength coach and his Administrator Ron Brown.

Cragg definitely needs to tread lightly because he brought Anderson in (on the recommendation of a former Duke) and gave him the generous buyout.

There is more pressure on Cragg to have a big year than the players.

Ron brown and an asst coach . I get having an issue w one person but 2? Then pinzon who has been quiet since he got here got so frustrated he went to Twitter. Where there is smoke there is fire guys . But who cares it's a money thing and big Rick coming to town soon

I told you SJU couldn’t afford the $10 million buyout (which apparently is actually $11 million). If they could, they wouldn’t be pulling an absolute bush league move like this. I also told you CMA and his agent would demand every cent of what’s owed him. But alas, I’m just the source of fake news on this site.

No. You said SJU could not afford the buyout in which case Anderson would not get fired.

The university can afford the buyout. You mean they are going to make this huge investment in Pitino, his staff, and the NIL, but somehow not have enough to cover Anderson’s buyout?

Is Silicon Valley Bank stock still a solid buy?

Let’s hear the whole story before we rush to judgement here. Anderson’s lawyers will of course play him off as the victim here that is their job. If St. John’s had legit reasons for his firing where he was not fully doing his job they should be entitled to explore that.

Money is fungible. If SJU could afford the buyout, they'd be paying it.

Fungible with what, FTX crypto? You are changing your stories on the fly because you were steadfast that SJU could not afford the buyout and Anderson would not get fired.

Again, how can the school make this enormous investment in the program, make amends with an important donor, but yet be unable to pay the buyout?

I have been cool with your posts. But now it seems as if it is personal and you have a massive axe to grind with the university.

Just got off a plane in Denver to see this thread. Never a good thing, but I know enough to know the devils always in the details. Just wish they’d found a way to avoid it.

I’m not a Lawyer but , there are a lot of issues here in this pending Arbitration between the University and CMA that we , as fans have no idea about . And , it’s telling that Arbitration is being utilized initially rather than a filed Law Suit . Probably CMA ‘s Employment Contract , as many do , contains such a Clause to be arbitrated before Litigation be brought forward . And , I would think that some sort of University - Anderson negotiations had taken place before the News today was leaked . Leaked by whom ? Mike , and his Legal advisors are prime suspects . Obviously the University believes it has some grounds to reach a Negotiated Settlement , rather than a total buyout amount if they are Terminating for cause . Our lay person’s opinions are just that , opinions . I find it, puzzling that many posters here , are already condemning the School and throwing dirt on the School , as if Anderson isn’t a contributor to the headlines . And , frankly , none of us have knowledge of all the facts that the University believes supports their case for Dismissal for Cause . A more than fair number of posters spent much of the CMA years kissing his Ass , even in the face of evidence that suggested he was a awful Coach and in many respects incompetent . The exit of so many Players at the end of Year 2 wasn’t seen as anything but , some Players dissatisfaction . When it might have foretold the reality of the locker room being a total chaotic mess . DeMelo’s abrupt firing wasn’t given even half the response that CMA’s firing has generated and , with far less sympathy . And , I would take the presence of Fr Shanley at a Team practice as being a fairly accurate description of what was taking place with the team . As for this Anderson situation having any impact on Pitino taking the job , I would say those odds are less than Zero . So , for those of you who are lamenting poor Anderson’s dismissal , remember no matter what happens , he still is going to fill his pockets with Millions . It’s just a question of how many Millions .

Wrong, they can afford it. They just don't want to pay it. That is not the same thing.

Call it petty, call it gamesmanship. But it does not prove that they don't have the money anymore then Louisville did not have the money when they fired Pitino with cause or UCONN fired Ollie with cause and as you pointed out lost. So how did UCONN pay off Ollie?

By your calculation if they lost in arbitration they are screwed because they don't have the money. So then what happens? They have to fire Pitino and hire the janitor.
