A good portion of this board.
All hires come with an element of risk. In Pitino's case his past performances have been outstanding over many years. That said, hiring him still comes with an element of some risk, as would any hire we make. For those who view his hire from the cup is half full perspective, they see all the positives. For others who live in the cup is half empty world, they see the negatives. The truth probably lays somewhere in between.
None of this matters of course if a deal does not get done, and for that we will have to wait a bit longer.
BTW does anybody see the correlation with Pitino's hire for SJU and Aaron Rodgers coming to the Jets?

I’m no expert but I believe the signing of Lazard is similar to Gtown falling out of the Pitino conversation in regards to omens and portents.

Rick is starting from 0 when it comes to NCAA sanctions now. There is literally 0% chance he receives punishment for his past transgressions since the NCAA cleared him back in November. It would be like OJ getting arrested for Nicole's murder again after he's been legally acquitted. There's no reason to think he's any more of a risk for sanctions going forward than anybody else, all of which is close to zero now with the advent of NIL.

2 of 6 programs he coached for received sanctions. I’m to worried about based transgressions. I’m worried about future.
To use your analogy, it’s like if OJ got acquitted for murder but then went to jail for armed robbery. Even if you’re acquitted for one crime you can still go to jail for another.

Well judging by Pitino’s track record. And ignoring his 6 game stint as HC of Hawaii to start his career. Every stop since he’s won at a minimum of 64% clip. No coach at SJU has won at a clip that high since Louie. So unless we end up ruining that streak that’s the low water mark based on his career.
Just because you are a bad head coach doesn’t mean you’re a bad assistant. Some folks just don’t make that jump.
I wouldn’t say that many although there have been a few.
I think Pitino can keep that winning percentage going. After all, Anderson kept his streak of never having a losing season here too.

Our future is in the MAAC Conference if we F this up. We are seen as a dying program nationally and an annual Big East bottom feeder.
Other than Fran F, we have failed miserably on the success scale with every coach hire sine Louie retired.
This is not the time for a wing-and-a-pray young-gun, inexperienced hire
I don't think that many here think that there will be 3 final 4s at any point (let alone in 4 years), but I do think most here think that we should have a winning record from day 1 and build from there. I also think that the hype is high and there could be disappointment, but the odds of improving markedly with a guy like Pitino (if he is the guy) are far greater than the odds of failing or continued mediocrity.
Maybe, but if we whiff here, Speedy should be the guy.
Let’s first worry about getting the man as a coach first!

We can't whiff anymore. We are losing generations of fans with now going on 3 decades of mostly putrid basketball results and an eroding basketball program infrastructure.
