I disagree. Dayton's best team was their 1967 NCAA Tournament team when they beat NC in the semis and lost to Lew Alcindor's UCLA team in the championship game. Don May was their best player. In the semis, he made 13 straight shots in one stretch and ended up with 34 points and 15 rebounds in beating NC and in the finals, he scored 21 points and 17 rebounds to Alcindor's 20 points and 18 rebounds. Don May was only 6'4' tall.
Don May was a Baller, definitely nice with it, He carried that Dayton team. Much respect for his game.

I’m gonna say it now. If we do the expected on Saturday, we take the Marquette game easy. I don’t give a damn about optics. Rest, go to the tournament healthy and ready. A loss is not gonna matter in that game. 26-5 or 27-4, who cares?
Pitino, the players, coaches, and I care. Can't speak for anyone else. This team has too much self respect to just accept losing.

I don’t know. God forbid any of these guys who are banged up get some kind of worse injury and are out the rest of the season from a game that means basically nothing, that would be pretty crappy in my eyes.

lol, I’m not saying they should throw the game, I’m just saying guys like Richmond, Luis, Scott, etc…maybe shouldn’t play 40min. I don’t know why I have to spell that out.

Let me add, it’s kind of an indictment on the system itself if the committee or whoever it may be hangs us for losing a game that means nothing, especially against a team like Marquette. That just doesn’t make sense. There’s a reason NFL teams rest their starting QB or the NHL their starting goalie in the last regular season game when they’ve clinched. I mean, Christ, in the NBA starting players get rested for “maintenance” or whatever that means.

The Marquette game could be the difference between getting a 3 seed and a 4 seed which is a massive difference. You definitely don’t punt that game
I agree that is how it is done - and it’s further proof that zero common sense is included in the tournament process. A team that has clinched should have to go all out in a last regular season game? Its wildly stupid.

Thank you.

Not sure I see the correlation. Clinching the big east regular season is an amazing achievement for this team, but if the committee views it as a much weaker league to the SEC/B12/B10 then us winning it isn’t going to solidify our seed automatically

I just want to make sure I got this right…we’ll still lose luster in the committee’s eyes if we lose to Marquette next week but we still win the Big East Tournament? It would unquestionably be our “best” loss regardless of the circumstances.

This is a serious question that I’m asking one of you rankings guys like @dk423

Not an expert, but I thought performance in the Conference tourneys does not enhance your chances of making the Big Dance, unless you win it outright and secure the automatic bid.
