Jim Larranaga to Step Down

He was also a huge beneficiary of NIL with the Final Four team and Peck getting record $$$. Team apparently really struggled with chemistry last year despite being loaded. They got a top 10 HS player (Bethea) but just haven't clicked this year either.
Absolutely. He was arguably the first coach to successfully take advantage of paying players huge sums. Made a Final 4 that way just two years ago. He’s stepping down because his current team is horrible and he’s old.

Very worried about Rick doing it as well.

I don't think Jim did it for his 2nd in command. Caputo was his right hand for a long time before he went to GW to get HC experience. The interim HC was previously a HC with a poor record. Its just going to be a question if Miami goes big time money or Caputo.
Rick well definitely do it, and unfortunately I feel like that's part of the deal with the devil we agreed to when taking on Pitino.

I am not sure this was his choice especially he is in “discussions” regarding stepping down.
Time to move on for Miami. Any 75 year old coach having a terrible season and this is probably going to happen. UM now has time to go get the guy that can be the future there.

Couple of things of Pitino and Miami.

1)Rick has a home in Miami and loves it there
2)He was very close to leaving the Celtics in 2000 for the Miami Hurricanes job. They were in deep negotiations and it was thisclose. As it turned out it did not happen Rick stayed on with the Celtics but then resigned in January of 2001 before taking the Louisville job in March of 2001.

But no I don't think for a second he leaves for Miami. He has the perfect end of career gig.

I do think Caputo and Anthony Grant are going to be the main candidates for Miami.

With all that being said, Pitino will be 73 at the start of next season. I don't think it's unfair to say there may not be many high major teams who'd want to take on a coach that age who might only be there for a short period of time, even with his hall of fame background.

Miami makes this official. Larranaga: “There is never a great moment to step away, but I owe it to our student-athletes, our staff and the University of Miami to make this move now when my heart is simply no longer in the game…”

This NIL world would have been right up Jerry "the shark's" alley.
UNLV would have been an annual national championship contender 😜
