SJU Portal Targets

I think Vince is definitely a guy worth taking a flier on. If he doesn't regain any more athleticism, he can still be a useful big body for 10-15 minutes. But if he does regain some of it (which isn't impossible to imagine), his ceiling is pretty exciting. I really like that he's friends with Zuby, came here in part because he saw how he developed last year, and that he won't be expecting to put up big minutes. Seems like a high character guys.

Not sure I'd say he's going to be a big x-factor, but I hope he can emerge as part of that core for the year after next.

So Caleb Love and Bacot were pre-season All-Americans on a blue blood school that played for the NC the year before.

After missing the NCAAs are you saying SJU would not take either from the Portal because UNC badly underachieved? Huh?
No debate on the Love and Bacot comments .
But , our missing the Tournament , along wirh Seton Hall and Providence was a gross injustice on the Selection Committee .

Usually the BE gets 4.5,6 Tournament bids a year . And , despite the BS stats that are quoted by the Selectors , giving the Mountain West the number of bids they received was ridiculous .
The explanation of upsets in Conference Championships still does not wash as a reason why the BE did not receive the proper number of teams .

Despite constant over valuing of the Big 10 , ACC , etc the BE is realistically the best BB League in existence .
Why , for example does St Mary’s , the near perpetual 2 nd place finisher to Gonzaga always gets a bid ? If St Mary’s was in the BE they might finish above G’Town and DePaul .
Even mighty Gonzaga would get trounced in the BE .
Just saying . We finished the season more than qualified for the Tournament as did PC and SH .

If we sign Richmond and Omier, Bart Torvik has us, as of now, with the 11th-rated roster heading into next season. Without Pitino, NIL, and Repole we were DePaul plus. These changes in the cbb landscape saved the program. Blows my mind that some people on this board can't see that.
Everyone can see it, some, like me, don’t like it.

Healthy or not, I don't see anything that warrants a top 50 ranking and certainly not a top 25. Predicting the center position is the hardest thing in college basketball. You can't teach 7'1 250, though, and we all saw firsthand how that kind of size can impact a game in the right situation with a barely ambulatory Curtis Johnson.

I think he can be very good on the offensive glass. He's going to struggle in space on defense, but I don' think he will be a total liability and will be better than Soriano (who was awful). It comes down to how well Pitino can get him to block shots and anticipate.

Maker I think will be a stud by his junior year. I love that kid's potential regardless of his ranking. He's a top 50 caliber recruit. Just my 2 cents.
Gotta remember a lot of rankings are based on potential also, at the time in HS, he's a 7'1 230 freak of nature...the medical stuff obviously hindered him from showcasing himself. Baylor, Kansas, Texas and UCLA were some of his finalists...I think it's a wise investment on potential for SJU

Rumor on SHU discord is that Memphis and an SEC school (Alabama?) are also in the running for Kadary, fwiw

My expectations for him pretty much mirror Zuby's production/progress this year, maybe a touch more.

Zuby averaged 11 minutes a game this year. I'd expect a little more for Vince because a) Zuby isn't Joel on offense and b) Zuby gets in foul trouble. And I'd expect the same progress as Zuby from beginning of the year to end on offense, to the point where he's a serviceable post option by tourney time. (Lest we forget, Zuby was also a top 50 recruit and when he got here, after one year at an elite program, he couldn't score 20 points if you left him in the gym by himself.)

I think we're going to have a nice little two-headed monster at the 5. And I agree about Maker, people are sleeping on him.

If we are lucky enough to land Norchad, no matter what else happens, he will still see some time at the 5. He's too good there and it will open up opportunities for Dunlap and Scott to get additional minutes. If thats at the expense of Vince getting legitimate minutes, it means we are in a great spot.

Norchad 20 minutes at the 4 with Zuby at the 5.
Norcahd 10 minutes at the 5 with Scott/Luis at the 4.

That would leave 10 more open minutes at the 5. If Zuby can handle all 10, great. If not we have Vince or Maker.

If we get Kadary would we use him as our primary ball handler? Or would he play off the ball a bit more than he did at Seton Hall, leaving us still in the market for a pure point like Smith?

I’m sure Kadary wants to be the primary ball handler and he will have his choice of where to go do so.

So maybe a bit more? But it’s still gonna be his ball

Could easily see 35 minutes at the 5 between Omier and Zuby against smaller teams.

Omier at the 5 opens up so many exciting lineups. Would Omier, Scott, Luis and Kadary together even be considered a small lineup?

I’m gonna assume he can play defense. But his offensive numbers are as if you took Jenkins and made a poor man’s version of him. Is only a sophomore though.

Oh and this
His advanced defensive stats are fine but yeah I'm not as juiced up about him.
