SJU Portal Targets

As someone who actually went to North Texas I'm not bummed out on not getting Scott. It's not like he's Tony Worrell. Look him up!

I don't have inside info, but sju#79 literally alluded to this a couple weeks ago. Guys are waiting out NIL agreements and backchanneling before entering the portal. There is zero, I repeat, zero, chance that the staff is discovering they're entering the portal the same time we are. We are literally the school responsible for some guys entering!
Reminds me of the scene in Jurassic Park where the little raptor chases the people and is then eaten by the T-Rex out of nowhere. We are the raptor and the blue bloods are the T-Rex.

Don’t mess with blue bloods or you’ll get Jurasskicked I guess?

Pitino seems to be playing the portal as a baseball owner/GM, who offers every free agent a perfectly reasonable contract. Do that, and you wind up with nobody in the end.

We're going to have to start overpaying for some guys. If not, then Rick cannot complain when his team starts losing again.

Unfortunately our two biggest needs are two positions that are most difficult to fill: PG and C.

We have wings. We have two guards. Get a backup PF and the rest is gravy.

As much as I love Pitino as a coach, and what he stands for basketball wise, if he can’t adapt to todays hoops landscape, and not get these portal kids, I think the frustration of losing (from not getting enough talent) may put him over the edge and shove him into an early retirement. After any loss at his press conference, he looked almost despondent. That’s a tough emotion to deal with at an age of 71.

A few years ago, getting a coach of Rick’s stature was a definite advantage but in the present world of college hoops, where NIL money rules, that advantage, with Coach’s philosophy may turn out to be a disadvantage and that’s a damn shame.

Taylor is just as good as Scott IMO. Similar shooters and Taylor has a better handle and play-making ability.

Scott better shot blocker and defending the 4. Taylor better defending 2s and quicker 3s and knows the defense. Scott gets beat a lot off the dribble but really recovers well. Like them both.
But can he/will he play alongside Luis? I don’t think Scott was in line to compete at the 3.

Luis and Taylor pair far better IMO. I like Luis at the 4…especially if he gains 8-12 lbs of muscle like some of Pitino’s past forwards. Do you really want Luis defending smaller wings?

I’m sure you’d agree that Taylor is a better offensive player than Scott. Taylor’s handle for 6’6 is impressive to me…I just wish he could finish better if he’s not fouled.

I do like the idea of Scott and Luis in a small lineup together with whoever we bring in at the 4 playing the 5. I feel like Scott would contribute more to the aggregate in a big man by committee there.
