SJU Portal Targets

Actually if I and others don’t complain we become part of the problem as you are. NIL was not meant to get money from fan bases but rather from corporations. And if a school can’t come up with those sponsors, it does not belong in the game or at least not at this level under the current landscape.
This was the Norm Roberts philosophy about not paying players. That wrecked our program for a half decade. I'd rather play dirty and win.

NIL thread PLEASE, I'm looking for info on SJU targets to the extent the haven't all disappeared from view for the moment. I for one am disappointed at not getting Scott, who I believe would have been a very good fit, but on to hopefully redder pastures....

Looks like no Scott, losing out to Oklahoma

Aside from Cliff, there has been no one I'm really down on losing. They all seem kinda/sorta replaceable by someone else in the portal.

I know some of you think the sun rises and sets on some of these portal guys. But it really doesn't. They're fine players but let's not pretend we're in the running for Chris Webber, Ray Allen and Steph Marbury all rolled into one.

Except the PG from Utah. He looks awesome.

Not adding this to add more vitriol to this thread, but we're also out on Townsend. Zach alluded to him as a target, as did Paultz. But he's down to Ohio State and Arizona.

Feel similar... Cliff was the one name that was a true difference make... Vaguely associated with Roach- who would fall into that "difference maker" category for me...

Come November....Luis is gonna make us forget this time period anyway...

While I don’t believe in the whole NIL concept, I don’t have an issue with paying players if it’s done by means of NIL contributions from corporate sponsors, but not from fan bases.

You’re right, sorry about that.

Serious question... what is our plan B now that we have lost Scott? I know Dillon Mitchell was talked about but at this point, I am not optimistic. we NEED those ivy waivers

I don't have inside info, but sju#79 literally alluded to this a couple weeks ago. Guys are waiting out NIL agreements and backchanneling before entering the portal. There is zero, I repeat, zero, chance that the staff is discovering they're entering the portal the same time we are. We are literally the school responsible for some guys entering!

Which makes it more alarming if we are the school responsible for guys entering the portal and not closing on those kids. Here’s hoping that Rick has a few tricks left up his sleeve.

The true intent of NIL and legally and directly supporting your team getting talent within the current framework are two very separate topics.

I think NIL is an absolute travesty as currently constituted. This is not in the spirit of what was originally pitched to the masses. However, fans not contributing puts their team behind the 8 ball.
