Is Cliff becoming the poster boy for everything that’s wrong with college hoops today?
Cliff got his degree, played four years at one school, and now going to make more money than he probably ever will playing hoops. In a vacuum, I actually don't blame him and think it's fine.

I have more issues with teenagers going to four different high schools. That is abnormal.

Which means we'll be asked to donate to the Pre-Pre-NIL funds. Makes complete sense to me.
Personally I believe that fans donating to NIL funds is very wrong and not what NIL was intended to mean in the first place. NIL stands for Name and Likeness as in advertisement. Now I understand the love that many of us as fans have for thus program and our desire to see it succeed but at what cost? If you are a poster who hates what’s happening to college hoops and then turn around and contribute to an NIL fund then you are part of the problem yourself. And when you donate to an NIL fund, do you really know where all the money is going to and what percent is actually going to the players?

As I’ve stated in the past, I will not contribute one dime to any NIL fund for many reasons and will continue to donate to causes I find of greater value and for a greater good.

Sorry about this post…… please move this to the NIL thread.

Then don’t complain.

why did a couple of SJUBB fan accounts get all hype last night? I saw Rumble in the Garden tweeting out white smoke and stuff and I thought something was happening haha

The Ivy league acceptance rate at all schools is about 10%. For athletes, the acceptance rate is about 85%. It points to everything wrong at all colleges.

The reality is that fans have no interest in watching 1500-1600 SAT with limited athletic skills play basketball or football.

Trail that down to leading academic institutions and if athletes weren't given special consideration for acceptance, the best schools would pretty much field the worst teams.

That's not to say that there aren't some exceptional students AND exceptional athletes. There are.

The point and truth is that top athletes are recruited for how well they play a sport, not how they do in the classroom. That's the value they bring to the university.

For decades, schools got a very lopsided deal in offering athletes capable of filling stadiums free classes, a dorm room far worse and smaller than a motel six, cafeteria food, and a tiny amount of spending money in exchange for tv, ticket, and apparel revenue, huge bumps in applications and branding and national recognition for the school.

Pay the athletes, drop the sports that few care about and are a drain to $ resources, and be done with it.

The mere fact that we know the names of players from 50 years ago who never sniffed an nba court and never made a penny off the millions they raked in for the school tells us all we need to know about the inequity of it all.

I am not losing hope on us putting together a good roster. We will get our guys and Rick will do what he can to get the best out of them.

The thing that I cannot stop myself from thinking about, is the portal process on a whole, is rapidly changing before our eyes. I have no clue how Rick is handling that. At his age, it is not inconceivable to me that he is going through all this and thinking, "nah this ain't for me anymore"

We have seen other coaches tap out because they saw where this was going.

Side note - Glenn Taylor anyone? Didn't he say in his goodbye letter he would still consider SJU? Maybe we thought we were going to do a lot better in the portal, could Glenn be an option for a return if we send him a nice edible arrangement or something?

Have mixed feeling about Vincent, but realize w risks sometimes you get rewards.

While I am not in a panic, It is the clear the need to add some quality guards especially a PG soon is vital. Returnees have upside, but imo we need some veteran guards/wing capable of scoring moving the ball & defending. We lose a ton of scoring and our luck never seems to line up in situations like the two waivers.

Next two weeks should give us a better sense of things hopefully.

A bouquet of minutes 😇

Actually if I and others don’t complain we become part of the problem as you are or anyone else who support this type of donation. NIL was not meant to get money from fan bases but rather from corporations. And if a school can’t come up with those sponsors, it does not belong in the game or at least not at this level under the current landscape.
